What would be the modern day version of this game
Bama is definitely the convicts. Literally and figuratively
Any idea who would wear the white hat nowadays

There is no comparison nowadays, no matter how far you want to reach. The Alabama program's only similarity to the Miami program back then is that they were/are both dynasties.
Not to mention that the Catholics weren't choir boys back then, either.

Given that every major program has become what Miami of the 80s embodied (they just did it first and best), probably some D3 school that plays "for the love of the game"
(Random Top 25 Team) vs Wisconsin-WhiteWater. I'd watch.

Notre dame weren't angels. But people hated Miami so much.
I honestly think people hate bama too. Like all dynasties

There's just no room for that era Miami type of football anymore, which is kinda lame. Those were some of the funnest years of college football. Now you just have thuggy programs without any of the on-field swagger.

I hated them back in the day but damn they could back up all their trash talk and swag.

People suck at talking trash anymore. They aren't funny
I still say joe horn ruined football. When Terrell Owens was doing his thing even though people hated it, I thought he was clever and funny. When he grabbed the pen out of his sock, signed the football and gave it to the fan. That was the best
Then dumbass joe horn grabbed a cell phone out of the goalpost for which no one still knows what for ad completely ruined celebrations. The NFL said enough. It was stupid. Not clever.
Imitators always ruin a good a thing.

"Swag" is utterly subjective and manufactured. Being a thug was part of Miami's swagger, they cultivated that image on and off the field. The closest thing to 80s Miami now is Florida State.
You're an idiot if you think there's any comparison between Bama and Miami. If anything, people argue that Alabama under Saban is too authoritarian and doesn't have enough personality. People complain all the time that the players are so boring and canned in interviews. Miami was all about the players showing out, becoming stars, and doing what they wanted. Can you imagine a Saban coached team doing that combat fatigue thing?

Agree. Hated them too at the time, but now realize just how entertaining that era of The U was - worth three 30 for 30 episodes

I don't see how anyone could compare Miami of the 80's to Bama now. Bama has won more than the Canes did and they aren't anywhere near the thugs that the Canes were back then.

Pretty sure Georgia makes a good argument to be the "convicts."

Looks like this is becoming a bullet that I can put in my pocket for later.

2001 Canes = GOAT college football team in the BCS era.

there is no comparison right now to those Miami teams. You have to have a combination of thugs, coaches who recruit thugs and let the players thug on and off the field. And they have to be a great team.

When it comes to Georgia and most of the SEC since Malzahn arrived, sure they can.

I get your point because those teams were "great."

Cam Newton and Nick Fairley alone will forever carry the torch of Auburn thuggery

Only because the world hasn't seen so much greatness from our men that starred in unofficial extracurricular activities. Fairley is bout to put his fricking belting on after beating your pitiful arse.
