Ole Miss Softball - Seating and other questions

(I was going to post this to the Ole Miss forum, but I see it's private, so I thought I'd try my luck here.)
LSU fan here... My wife and I are heading to Oxford tomorrow to watch the LSU/Ole Miss softball series.
As far as I can tell, admission is free, and there are no tickets. Am I right in assuming that means we can just show up at the softball complex and take any seats we want? (Even the nicer ones near home plate?)
If it does work that way, are we likely to offend any regulars by taking "their" seats, or are people pretty relaxed?
How early do the gates open? For example, given a 2:00 p.m. start, will the gates open at 1:00? Earlier? Later? I suspect it will be crowded.
We'll have Saturday morning free. Are there any must-see or must-eat-at places close to campus for first-time visitors to Oxford?
Thanks in advance for any answers.

Is softball not free at every school?

Visiting fans have to sit at the picnic tables beyond the outfield. (Honestly I don't know. I haven't been to a softball game there in 20 years. But first come first serve sounds about right.)

Seating shouldn't be a problem but getting directly behind home plate might be tough.
The Square is just a short ride and plenty of decent places for lunch. You might try
Ajax or Old Venice but getting decent food won't be a problem. Check out
the stores on the square and relax. Ajax had a decent Bloody Mary last time I was there.

Thanks for the replies (especially Dave1999). We don't need to sit behind home plate--any seat with a back will do (prefer to avoid bleachers). The Square sounds good.
