I understand you struggle with simple things. You either think it's safe to assume we beat a decent team or you don't. You gonna side the dd22 on this one?

Oh, I know who has issues understanding simple things here I promise.

You just admitted these things are confusing for you. The years of football takes its toll obviously. I guess I was fortunate to not be good enough to experience that. So, gonna side with dd22? It's a bad look.

I'm ok with the subject matter. Just trying to understand the lighting fast undulations of what common sense expectations are supposed to be... on this website.

It's okay to expect a NCAA win or two in your coaches first 8 years, and it's okay to be upset when your coach can't do that.

I posted this in another thread
quote:
-Make the NCAAT once every 3/4 years. This is a box that Fox can technically check off since he has 2 in 8 years, but it's worth nothing that with teams that he himself recruited he has 1 appearance in the last 6 years.
-If we make the tourney, just win 1 game! Fox has not done that.
-If we can't make the tourney and settle for the NIT, at least make a run. Fox has never won more than 1 NIT game. In 2 of this 3 NIT losses we were the higher seeded team.
I don't think 1a )making the tourney with some regularity, 1b) winning a tourney game, 2)winning a few NIT games is all that much of a stretch, do you? Nobody is saying we need to make the final 4 every other season.

Only one high-major program in the country has retained a coach who has lost more than 12 games each of the last eight years - Georgia. Only one high-major program in the country has retained a coach the last eight years who has yet to win an NCAA Tournament game in that time at that particular institution - Georgia.
This pretty much sums up our situation. We have a culture of complacency and inaction starting at the top and the longer we kick the can down the road, the more it will cost us in the future.

and yet some of our fans want to keep him for 9 years and beyond simply because they're afraid our AD won't be able to find someone better. It's sad.

That's the thing I don't understand --why people are afraid that we could do worse. Is that possible? Sure. In that case, rinse and repeat. It's not like we are giving up consistent tournament appearances for an unproven coach or are going to lose out on any big time recruits. We are a below average to average team with Fox and it's clear that he is unable to take us to the next level.

Exactly. We're on solid enough footing right now as a program and have access to enough high profile talent that we almost assuredly aren't going to be going 8-20 or something like that with the new guy. So what's the worst that could happen, we miss the tourney? Or miss the NIT? Not that far off from what we already are so who cares. At least it'd shake up the status quo and give us hope and the potential to actually do big things.

We never have really done that with any frequency. I'd love to do more than that and if we landed 5 of the top 10 players in GA every year, we probably would. I feel we can find a coach that can change our culture enough to remedy that, I'd be the first to kick Fox in the nuts on his way out.

Fire whoever you want. I just don't think it's a drastic enough change to the program to accomplish much.

There are many examples of coaching changes leading to programs accomplishing more.

Sure, at programs with the infrastructure to do more already in place.
Georgia hasn't had a bad basketball program for the better part of 50 years by bad luck.

Huh? We have a successful history with hiring new coaches after firing poorly performing coaches. Here is the list:
Durham
Tubby
Harrick
Fox

ETA. I'll grant you Durham and Tubby Smith, and Durham was at UGA in a completely different era.

One of those coaches is not like the others.
Posted on 3/21/17 at 7:39 am to Crowknowsbest
Harrick won a dance game and had uga in position to win a few more when the plug got pulled.
Fox hasn't won a dance game but the program is no doubt better than it was when he arrived.
Why not aim to do what we have a history of doing 4 times in a row?
