Some of Saban's bad decisions cost bama another championship this year

Most bama fans are scared to admit it but his OC hire is very questionable and seems to be rushed. He's still a great recruiter and there is a ton of talent on his team, but he seems to be losing his edge with the coaching staff. Is this a concern for bama fans?

He's won 3 straight SEC Championships, is 28-2 the last 2 seasons and is 22-2 in his last 24 SEC games. We lost the national championship on a TD pass with about 5 seconds to play to a great team and a great player.
No, I'm not concerned about some greater issue. I don't know how good Deboll will be, but I generally assume the floor is pretty high considering Saban's track record.
I also disagree that "bad decisions" cost us the national championship. We lost to a really good team because we had a true freshman QB that hit a wall, we couldn't convert 3rd downs and Clemson eventually made us pay. I don't think Kiffin would have been any better.

Can we play the season before you make an arse out of yourself?

Why would we be concerned until there is a tangible reason to be? He's won national titles with five different OCs.

Y'all have had some very good OCs, iyo is this a good hire?

I think that the national/regional reaction to this is roughly the same if not better than it was with the last offensive coordinator, who was touted as being born on 3rd base and coming off of ugly offensive performances at Southern Cal. Most thought it would fail miserably (especially our rivals). 3 years later we went 9-0 vs Auburn, LSU and Tennessee, won 3 SEC Titles in a row, went to 3 straight playoffs and won a national title.
Our other hires, Nussmeier and McElwain, were not highly regarded by the media or people who watch football on TV either.
I don't know if this is a good hire. Time will tell. He had terrible quarterbacks in the NFL, Belichick trusts him to run his offense and Saban seems to be convinced he knows what he is doing. But, I don't know if he has the ability to call a good football game. We won't know until we see it. My guess is at worst we are predictable and our QBs don't develop that costs us a few big games and at best we are scary good.

The SEC has been down the last few years, imo.

That doesn't diminish the accomplishment of winning 3 straight to me one iota.

Some are saying this is your last tour.
Yeah, that's what they said in 67, 69, 72, 75 and so on.

Should he have gotten UConn's OC? You know the only school in the country that the football team plays second fiddle to the women's basketball team?

They should really fire that guy. Can't believe they keep him around.

But his decisions the season before brought us a national championship...at least his decisions have had us in the running for championships in 8 of the 10 years he's been here, with 4 natties and 5 SEC titles...would you be complaining if AU had that history for the past 10 years? I think not...

I'm just saying that Saban has seemed to have full control, but right before the championship into the offseason there's a small sign of instability that I haven't seen since he arrived. Bama fans won't see it and can't admit it.

We may lose a regular season game next year? Holy shite, kill me now.

What exactly do you see as instability? 4 coaches leaving for promotions? Hiring someone as his OC who isn't a media favorite? Because those are not new things. They've happened over and over during his tenure at Alabama.
I just don't see it. But I could be wrong, time will tell.

A lot of readily admit and discuss when Saban/Alabama make mistakes.

A coach leaving a week before the national championship, the newly hired OC leaving after one game, then a less than average OC hire. Continue with your narrative though.

There's no narrative. Just that results speak for themselves. Close race between you and LSU for killing the reps of so called above average OCs. Tigers eating their own really is a thing.

That coach was Lane Kiffin, and everyone and their mother knew that once he landed a full time gig and didn't need Alabama anymore there was a heavy chance he'd be terrible at balancing two jobs.

He was offered what is probably the 2nd best offensive coach position all of the sport of football. It would have been career malpractice to decline it.

Again, this same thing was said before the last OC hire and by quite a few folks before the previous 2. Like with those, I'll give it time and see how it works out. 2 of the greatest football coaches of all time seem to like the guy, so I'm going to give it a shot.

Ah, there it is. Everyone was having a semi-decent conversation about this, but as I suspected, this was a usual AU4real35 attempt at digging at Bama, not really innocently asking questions of another fanbase.

It wasn't a dig, it was an option for you to take off the goggles. I've given Saban compliments in this thread and the guy is arguably the best coach ever, but everyone has seen some instability at bama over the last couple of months.
