I'd like to see more comprehensive studies before a bill is passed on whether or not it would save the taxpayers' any money, but welfare spending is fricking out of control so I support the idea.

I support testing for those receiving govt assistance. Whether or not it saves any money would remain to be seen, but it should be mandatory.

If I had to live on welfare I'd spend all my money on drugs to avoid reality

Alcohol is a legal substance.

I imagine the crimes rates will go up as the addicts will need to find money somehow
I'd replace any copper piping that addicts would dig up

I use to think this wasn't a bad idea then once you start looking at it, it is just a waste of money most of the time.

I support that, too, but I would also require mandatory birth control as a prerequisite for any kind of welfare. I'd sincerely like to see our government pay people to get sterilized. We could wipe out poverty in one generation.

And that somehow legitimizes folks subsidizing their lifestyle?

if that applicant checked a box reporting they are on illegal drugs or lost their job because of it.

Just another way "conservatives" make big gov't bigger. The better thing to do would be to get out of the welfare business altogether and let social organizations handle it.

Amen to that. Vote farming with welfare has corrupted both major parties. We should make churches and other religious organization earn their tax exempt status by handling welfare programs. I'm sure they'd do much better than government.

There is no question social welfare ran by non profits makes the most sense. There would also be oversight which doesn't seem to exist today.

Yes, it was the lack of oversight that allowed Attorney Eric Conn, "Mr. Social Security," to make $22 million off fraudulent claims in Eastern Kentucky. What a mess. I'm sure his example is common across America.
