Cristobal:

Western Michigan: Sources tell FootballScoop Western Michigan plans to meet with Alabama’s Mario Cristobal tomorrow about their head coaching opening. Cristobal has been offered the offensive coordinator position at Oregon sources tell FootballScoop (and was a candidate for two other head coaching openings). As we previously reported, WMU has interviewed Tim Lester and Matt MacPherson for the position. We also hear they spoke with Les Miles earlier this week about the position.

Obviously would be a big loss. He's a recruiting machine. I wonder if Coach Saban regrets hiring Brent Key? Since that hire, the offensive line did
not perform like past seasons.

I've been wondering about Key. Bozeman did a good job, but right guard was awful. I know we have some talented guys, but none developed to take over that spot. It's concerning

I'll see your "past seasons" and raise you a Dominick Jackson.

Alabama: Indication we hear from Alabama is that Nick Saban expects to be able to retain Mike Locksley, moving him on the field, based on conversations with sources who note the situation remains fluid.

Honestly, we've been iffy on the OL since Cristobal arrived. I really respect his recruiting ability, but we need some improvement/consistency there.

This here . His recruiting ability will be missed but I do not think it will be hard to replace his on the field development ability

So Locksley to where on the field?
Has he coached offensive linemen in the past?
Also, if the geniuses in the NCAA pass the legislation to get another coach on the field who do we go after?

He'd be the TE coach with Key coaching OL.

O line was better overall this year than last year. Such short memories

with all the big name coaches in florida now, do you guys think that will hurt cristobals recruiting strength in that area anyway?

Where's Joe Pendry when you need him?

I will agree with you on the pass blocking but the blocking for Derrick Henry down the stretch last year was a thing of beauty to watch.

Dude, Key was hired because line play u dear Cristobol was terrible. Bama lost the kick six game because they could not get a yard on several occassins.
We have only started to dig out of the hole since Cristobol got moved. By the way, he still handles tackles. Remind me again what position got false start penalties all season long?

I thought the O-line improved and handled themselves well outside of Cam's space cadet tendencies and the RG spot.
So basically Key does the whole OL and Locksley steps in to fill the ace recruiter role? Works for me. More NOVA/MD/DC kids.

Did you see the OL coach Minnesota just got? SMH....

I think it did too.
I also understand that correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation, but one can't help but notice that said improvement happened after Key took over.

I LOL at the hand-wringing every time a coach leaves or is hired. In 10 years now with Nick especially looking back on the track record, you'd think we'd chill a bit and just say "Cool, next man up" whenever someone leaves.
