that's a bit extreme. I personally wouldn't choose to live there either but I mean it's not the hell hole you're describing. I guess we can't all live in south georgia lol

South GA is a good place to be from. Good place for Yankees to stop and piss and get McDonalds on the way to FL. Otherwise, not much to it other than the coast.

Monroe is just a few klicks too far out.

I'd live in Madison before Monroe.

I didn't single you out. I don't have anything against people from South, GA. Have many friends and relatives from there. And they never let the opportunity to pass to say how much they hate metro Atlanta. Many of them have never been here except to pass through on I-75. They just hear other people complain about traffic. Broken record. If you like South, GA, I'm happy for you. I like where I live. It's all good.

I have noticed this as well.

There's nothing South GA people love more than talking about how awful North GA is. It's obnoxious as shite.

Work in Brookhaven then you don't want the drive from Grayson or Cumming or Marietta. Depending on your price point you need to check out Dunwoody or Johns Creek.

I've been driving to Brookhaven every day since 2008 from Winterville.

I can handle the commute from Grayson.

I agree with this. We live in Bremen and love it. Bremen City Schools are consistently ranked top 5 in the State along with Buford and Jefferson City Schools. Carrollton and Tallapoosa are good choices on the West side as is Villa Rica. Douglasville is not desirable as far as residing there but still okay to go to the mall or to shop/eat. I can leave my office in Atlanta at 4:00pm and be home 50 miles away before someone going to Woodstock, Canton, Cartersville, Johns Creek, Suwanee, etc. can get within 30 minutes of their home. Really love escaping the congestion everyday as I drive into town.

see I can...know why?...born in South Fulton Hospital...lived in Jonesboro, McDonough, and Douglasville before coming to God's country...I love Atlanta for its sports and culture...but living there...and driving around there...with all the construction and transplant Yankees and Katrina refugees...frick that...I'll stay south of Macon for now...and visit every now and again...and when I do I will bitch and complain about the shitty traffic and the ridiculous amounts of people...cause like it or not...that is what Atlanta has become

When you compare them to the individual schools like Walton, Lassiter, Brookwood they don't even come close though.

Please,not even close.

Why do folks always throw the "top 5 in the state" when describing their own outlier school districts

Nah, they are ranked up there by some websites. But it's due to their small size. If we're talking small town Ga then yeah, Bremen is a pretty good choice.

If all a person sees of Metro Atlanta, it's obvious that you haven't spent much time in any of the areas except Henry Co. South, GA has nothing to offer that Metro Atlanta has, but Atlanta has much, much, much more. I need to be around people who think a little differently from me on occasion. So we're both happy.

I am not comparing to individual schools. My qualifier was "School Districts." That goes from K-12. We are talking strictly academics based on test score results. Not how well your black and Hispanic populations did measured against the rest of the States or Nations schools. That is what US News and World Reports bases their rankings on among other things. We really don't qualify for those type of rankings as we are 93% Caucasian.

Of course, because that only helps your argument. If I live in north Fulton and go to Johns Creek do I really care what happens at Tri Cities? Nope, I only care about my school.

If we're only using this Bremen can't hold a candle to most of the schools in north Fulton, east or west Cobb, or north Gwinnett.

I wasn't using them, I was using the state of Georgia's qualifiers that determine how well the schools were doing.

Because based solely on test results, it is a fact. Sorry if quantifiable facts hurt your sense of elitism you thought mattered by living in Fulton or Gwinnett. Your schools are very good but your students do not perform as well as Bremen students on the tests given to all of Georgia students as measuring sticks of overall academic achievement. Overall, Bremen City School district performs better on standardized tests than most other districts in the State. How can that be you might ask? Surely it is a little hick town in west Georgia who couldn't possibly have the interest in education that the elites of Fulton and Gwinnett have.

It just shows your naive elitism that you don't even care to understand why. I will educate you on that matter. Tom Murphy (former Ga Speaker of the House who held the position for decades) was from Bremen. The district was set up to be protectionist in nature. We do not have a bus system because we fall under the threshold of student population that requires a bus system. Who do you think had that legislation passed years ago?

Without a bus system, only students who have parents willing to take and pick up their children can attend the City Schools. You should see the lines everyday! You have to be all in to suffer through that.. Especially if you have kids of all ages at different locations. That eliminates the ones whose parents don't value education highly. Those kids get bussed to the County schools. Excessive tardiness will result in being expelled from the Schools.

Absurdly high property taxes are paid by residents of Bremen. I pay double the property taxes that I would one city over with the same house and lot. This strategy funds the school district while keeping out the undesirables. A protectionist strategy was adopted decades ago to insure that education would always be the most important aspect of residing in Bremen. A small town with an excellent school system.

I guess it might be hard to fathom that there might be some small towns outside of your bubble that might share your same values on education but they do exsist.

The proof is in the pudding. Based on test scores that are taken by all public school students in Ga starting in the 3rd grade, Bremen City School students are typically in the top 5 of over 145 districts in the State. Do you think these kids are just born smart or maybe their schooling has something to do with that. I don't really care about qualifiers like "how much better is Gwinnetts black population doing against Fultons." Talking strictly results of the material taught to all kids over 12 years.

You keep using entire school districts for your argument while ignoring the fact that schools like Walton, Lassiter, and Brookwood continually score higher than Bremen High School in all areas. But if you would like to link some test scores that show Bremen scores higher than them I'll eat my words.

Here are some test results that you keep talking about. Are the SAT results good enough for you? I see 6 Cobb, Gwinnett, or Fulton schools on there and yet no Bremen in the top 10.

Why no Bremen?

That's a pretty nifty link too. You can see that Bremen High School doesn't rank anywhere near the top ten in any of the categories like the SAT, ACT, CCRPI, or AP tests.

Like I said earlier, if you want the small town feel of raising your kids then Bremen is an excellent choice. I'm not talking down about Bremen but the best schools in the state are located in Cobb, Gwinnett, and Fulton. The stats don't lie.
