So the review of the play ruled the whistle to be an inadvertent whistle, but then the game commentators get word from the replay booth that they didn't think possession of the ball had been gained by VT until after the whistle, so they ruled that Arkansas had retained possession of the ball. Sort of similar to if the ball had been fumbled, but then knocked out of bounds before either team gains possession of it.

As always when that guy opens his mouth, he's full of shite. If this was the case, Arky would have had it on the other side of the 50 instead of from where they punted.

Bert should argue this PI call. They would give Arkansas the ball

No, I think it is when it's kicked. Because a punt is not a live ball.

I'm not gonna pretend I think they right call, just asking yalls opinions on this theory. Maybe Bert's argument was that the holding penalty came B4 vatech had possession which would mean it's technically a penalty while arkansas had possession. Which gave us the yards we needed for the first down. If they makes any sense?

The whistle blew after the VT player touched the ball. The ball was live with neither team possessing it when the whistle blew.
and the last team with possession was tech.

The dumb announcers dont get it. The obscure rule is that because the penalty (holding) against VT and the errant whistle blowing the played dead both occurred before VT gained posession after muffing the catch, by rule the penalty is enforced and Arky retains posession. Bert knew that obscure rule. Kudos to him.

Wrong...He muffed the punt so technically the Arkansas offense was the last in possession of the ball.

That would explain why we got the ball on our own side of the field and not where it was recovered

It seems that some how in all of this we got a first down because of the holding penalty. I have no idea how that could be right unless some how the hold occurred before the ball was kicked?

I can't wait for the Tech fans blaming the call before half for losing this game.

I actually saw that happen in another bowl game. Could be.
