Why is Smarts staff able to recruit better than Richts?

Is it just out working them? Is that why some staffs are just better at it? Like Zook over McElwain in recruiting at UF?

Same reason some Account Executives, that are in various sales positions, get promoted beyond others. Some folks are just better at selling what they have to offer. Kirby and his crew appear to be in that category over Richt. CMR was never bad at it, Kirby seems to just be better at it.

First of all, it's hard to not recruit well at Georgia.
Secondly, he's a new face. Look at Lyle's first 2 classes.
Finally, Josh Dobbs just scored again

Most of UGA's recruits are from Georgia. No instate rival team on their level.

He works hard and has a clear vision for his program. That's the biggest thing. He's also a personable dude by all accounts.
There is an element to his recruiting that works better at Georgia specifically than it would anywhere else. He played at UGA, his dad was a long time HS coach in the state, and he's recruited the state for years at Alabama. He's a very familiar face to prospects and coaches in Georgia.

Some guys are just better at it. From all accounts Smart is a fun dude to be around and kids are buying into what he's selling. Like someone said earlier, Richt was good, Smart is better

Near the state boarder UGA has Auburn, Tenn, Clmemson, Alabama, SC, FSU and Florida. Go to Columbus area and there are a ton of Auburn fans. Valdosta/Thomasville has a lot of FSU fans etc. Last year all of those teams probably combined for around 30 Georgia recruits. UT and AUB probably got half and imo they have to recruit well in Georgia to be competitive. It doesn't seem like Bama loads up on guys from Georgia but when they do its Reuben Foster. Fulmer recruited well in Georgia many years.
I have heard LSU does the best at protecting their back yard and they do not have these great recruiting schools right next door.
Just my 2 cents

This is why it's harder to wall off the state than people assume. Yeah, we don't have an in state team competing for these top players but SC, Clemson, Auburn and Tennessee have to recruit well in this state to survive as well.

I think i see where youre coming from, hard to read with that sig pic though.
Just saying places like UGA and LSU being the big dog of their state has parents raising their kids to love that team. I live in LA and many youth football teams are purple and gold as well as HS teams. I coached when my son played and on homecoming day all of the kids say they wanna play for LSU when they grow up.

Haven't really emphasized the state of Georgia in several years. But will always target the elite prospects in Georgia of course.

Butch jone's first full cycle class finished 7th overall in 2014... Kirby 2017 class is blowing that out of the water, not even comparable. Your fear is evident.

I mean didn't Richt bring in top 10 classes annually? He always had tons of talent

UGA's class is rated higher than any class Richt ever signed per the composite rankings, even if we didn't add anyone else.

Yeah- he was always around the 10 mark, similar to Ohio state before urban. Kirby has them solidly in the top 3. It is a difference of top 6 or 7 in your conference to within the top two...big difference

Enjoy that Hail Mary win, it will be your last one for a while.

It's definitely a different approach. I don't feel like Richt offered as many kids as early as Kirby does.
