Im a state grad and have many State friends. Many of them have told me that they want Mullen gone and have wanted him gone. One even said Les over Mullen. Now as an LSU fan, I'd have taken Mullen over O. He took a team of 2 and 3* players to #1 in the country. If State could keep a DC, i think he'd been better this year. I think he is the best HC in MSU history and to want him gone is absurd. LSU gets crap for wanting Miles gone, but we've been better than we are now. State hasn't. Look at DM stats compared to Jackie Sherrill who is the only former HC with more than 1 bowl win.

Jackie Sherrill(1991–2003) W-75 L-75 %-.500 CW-43 CL-59 CW%-.422 Bowls-6 BW-2 BL-4

Dan Mullen(2009–present) W-55 L-35 %-.611 CW-26 CL-30 CW%-.464 Bowls-7('16) BW-4 BL-2

If any of them do they deserve all the losing seasons that will follow.

Who would want him gone?

ETA:

From a steady gig aspect, MSU might be the best job in the SEC. Expectations are reasonable, they pay well, and the campus has some talent around it. They also invest in facilities. I'd take it.

I don't think most State fans want him gone.

The frustration is that every year it seems that he flirts with other jobs. I think most State fans yearn for a Les Miles/Michigan moment where he denies he is interested and is committed to MSU. I dont think we are going to get it out of Mullen, so this is the hand we have been dealt - A decent amount of success for a historically bad program but rumors of a head coach leaving every year.

But we're going to get that in every sport, unless we get lucky and get an insider that has success (which is very rare). Stansbury married into MSU and Cohen is an MSU guy. They both had success and were long term guys. Stricklin as AD even bolted for Florida. He's as Maroon as they come.

Vic Schaffer's name will pop up when a big name women's basketball program needs a coach. Of all the bad programs at MSU, women's basketball is the worst, historically speaking. Last year was the first time we had ever beaten Tennessee. He might be the best coach we've ever had on campus, in any sport. Having MSU Women's basketball in the top 5 and contending for a runner up finish (lets face it, no one is beating UConn) is miraculous.

If Howland turns the ship on the men's side, someone else will come calling.

State fans have got to accept who we are and where we fall. If Mullen did leave, I feel like we are in a much better position to hire a replacement than we were in 2008.

If he got some help with recruiting he's be rolling down there. Ole Miss getting hammered might be the ticket.

I didn't want Mullen fired because we wouldn't find another coach as good. Over the past several years there have been several bigger/richer programs who have hired retreads or coordinators to be their head coaches. Even successful small school head coaches have no history of recruiting blue chip athletes. I'd want Mullen over any of those.

No, I don't want him gone, and h will be in Starkville until Bill Belichik retires and then he will head home to New England.

I know this time of year, usually my name gets mentioned with a lot of different jobs," Mullen told ESPN. "I'm still always here in Starkville because I love being the coach here. My kids were born here. I love raising a family here. But that's a first for me. It's a great honor.

"I don't know if that's in my future, but I think anybody involved in football, whether you're a player or a coach, one day at some point in your career, you'd love to have an opportunity to go to the NFL and either play coach or be involved in football at the absolute highest level in the game, which the NFL is."

I guess every fan base has them but there are alot of idiots that follow State. Most of them have short term memory and see 5 wins after having 9 and 10 win season back to back years. Mullen had 19 wins in 2 seasons. Croom probably didn't have that many combined. State is back at square 1. Mullen first season was 5-7 and he build and developed his arse off to get to 10 and 9 wins. State has to rebuild and chances are by 2018, State could have 9 or 10 wins again. The question I get is " Why does State has to rebuild not reload? State can't reload. State has the smallest budget in the SEC and that's why will never compete year in and year out. State has to find a way to keep Mullen as long as possible.

He seems like a good fit their . Either he doesn't want to go anywhere else or nobody else wants him so why not keep him when he has done their and should be their for a while.

The timing of this thread is weird. Mullen's success is indicative, of what happens when State hires a HC that's competent, high energy, and forward thinking.

Your friends are idiots, we need to ride this gravy train into the ground. Mullen is out of our league, period.

I too am a big Merlin believer, and catch flack from some LSU friends. And though had him as a second tier hopeful behind Herman and Fisher, do think DM at the right platform could be a monster HC. Always has MSU competent and competitive regardless of talent and depth levels.

Now, as for the quirky workout facility/ex-players fiasco, Foley blackball on hiring process thing, or whether he could recruit well as an elite program HC, etc..not well versed on his question marks.

We may could do better but we could definitely do worse. As others have said, my only real frustration is it seems like he flirts with other jobs every offseason. Aside from that, I have no huge complaints as every coach we could get is going to have weaknesses. The main reason I want to hang onto him as long as possible is what he does with QBs. We're never going to recruit at the level of Bama, LSU, etc. but the great equalizer is the QB position. We're set there for the next two years and we have, by far, the best QB recruit we've ever had coming in this class. If we're going to ever get back to Atlanta, it has to be behind great QB play and Mullen is as good of an option to provide that as anyone.

I am a well known anti-Mullen guy. I generally think his play-calling is atrocious, his loyalty to playing certain players over others despite all sense or evidence to the contrary, loyalty to coaches who haven't been performing well recruiting wise or developing their group(Hevesy), unbashfully going after jobs and being left stuck with us and we're left stuck with him, his energy level in some games. Often times it looks like he just doesn't give a shite.

Now we look at what LSU has done...lol..

I'll hold on to Mullen thanks.
