The University of Tennessee was scheduled to make its final payment to its former football coach this month as part of his buyout four years ago.
Dooley was fired by Tennessee on Nov. 18, 2012, with one game remaining in the regular season. The university had to pay $5 million to buy out the remainder of Dooley’s contract. The guaranteed payments were due in installments of $102,049 per month through December of this year.
The university owed Dooley’s entire staff nearly $9.36 million in potential buyout money, including $645,000 guaranteed to Jim Chaney, who is now the offensive coordinator at Georgia.
First time in eight years that Tennessee doesn't owe buyout money to a coach.

It's a shame how that school treated him. Never gave him a chance to succeed.

Great coach, his legacy on rocky top will live forever

Jones' marginal success is attributable to the foundation laid by Dooley. Derek got absolutely shafted by the admins at UT.

The story of Derek Dooley is a lesson on the value of a good AD.
UT lost the bubble on that and the program's equilibrium has yet to reset.

$100k per month to be one of the biggest failures in your occupation ever. What kind of world is this?

I feel like Hart is still paying Donnie Tyndall even with the 10 year show cause... He's that terrible of an AD.

Hart isn't paying Tyndall or Martin shite. Hart may have made some lackluster hires, but fiscally irresponsible he is not.
Hamilton is the one who made the bone headed hires then multiplied the stupidity by giving ridiculous buyouts and absurd extensions. We were still paying Fulmer after we fired Dooley. We paid Monte Kiffin a $1 Million bonus after Lane bolted for USC because he stayed employed at UT after January 20th.
When Hart took over for Hamilton, he inherited an absolute financial disaster and was able to turn the ship completely around in 5 years. We now have one of the most profitable ADs in the country, have been back comfortably in the black, and 5 years ago we were running huge deficits and swimming in red ink.
I'm glad he's on his way out, because Blackburn will actually use the money we have now to go after the top names that Hart was afraid to, but I'm glad he was here when he was.

And there are so many here who don't believe Bammers are capable of satire.

Shaft is right
Everything has been a crap show even now. That's how bad it's been administratively.
Hart has been better than he's being given credit for.

In that case, Barack Obama's marginal success is attributable to the foundation laid by George W. Bush.

They'll be paying another one after the 2017 season.

So, ticket prices should be going down for '17??
Isn't 102,049 just about the exact seat capacity of Neyland?
