“Lane Kiffin is an awesome and smart guy,” Galu Tagovailoa said. “We have much respect for that guy. But at the same time, we have built strong relationships with (outside linebackers coach) Tosh Lupoi and Nick Saban. Those are the two guys we’ve built a huge relationship with — not so much Lane. If Lane decides to move on with his career somewhere else, we wish him the best. We support him with whatever he’s going to do.”
The Tagovailoas spoke with Saban Wednesday and reassured him that the nation’s No. 1 dual-threat quarterback will enroll at Alabama this January.
“I just wanted to tell him that Tua is locked in with Alabama,” Galu Tagovailoa said. “I didn’t want them to think we were going anywhere else. Saban said he knew that was the case because Tua is a man of his word.”
In addition to speaking with Saban, the Tagovailoas also called LSU quarterback commit Myles Brennan’s family. A day after Tagovailoa picked up his LSU offer, Brennan took to Twitter to say that he was looking for other options just in case it didn’t work out with the Tigers. Ed Orgeron stated in his introductory press conference that he wants LSU to have a dual-threat quarterback under center, and Brennan isn’t that. He’s a pro-style prospect.
The Tagovailoas are family friends with the Brennans, and they just wanted to let them know that Tua wasn’t considering LSU and if Kiffin was to be the next offensive coordinator for the Tigers, they should give him a chance because he has the ability to run an offensive with either a pro-style or dual-threat quarterback. Alabama won the national championship last year with Jacob Coker, a pro-style quarterback.

Talk about a classy family. I'm glad their son will be representing Alabama very shortly.

One week in and Bama commits patching up soured relations between CEO and LSU recruits.

Sounds like Bama has a hell of a player with an even better character. Tua's family raised him right.

Agreed. Good for him for coming forth and setting the record straight vs. pulling a Shyiem Carter/Hootie Jones spectacle that no one falls for.

I guess it's wishful thinking on behalf of some LSU fans but Kiffin, from what I've read, isn't a major recruiter for Bama. The guys from out west who are recruited by Bama all seem to be recruited by Tosh Lupoi, not Kiffin.

Lanes greatness is from his ability to call a game plan that plays to the strength of the team. And make no mistake he is great at it but think of Jalen at the beginning of the season and Jalen now. Can anyone honestly say that Lane has helped him grow? I don't know if he is the QB whisperer everyone makes him out to be. Jake Coker won the job because he was a tough SOB but I don't think his passing was better necessarily at the end of the season as compared to the beginning.

Seems like fandom comment. He's a d-bag, but for whatever reason he gets good play from his QBs. It happened at USC, Tenn, USC again, and 3 different QBs at Bama.

Kiffin is outstanding at QB development.
Id say his primary strength is being able to evaluate what the guy can do well and completely tailoring the offense around those capabilities.
I will be shocked if in two years LSU doesnt have upper level SEC QB play if Kiffin heads to red stick.

Maybe it's just me but I just do it see how Jalen has progressed as a passer this season. He's a great kid and mature. Not easily rattled and a fantastic athlete but those were attributes he brought with him. His ball security is hot garbage and I'm not talking about interceptions either. He is a fumbling machine.

quote:um, yrs it was. Coker was playing out of his mind that last 4 or 5 games of the season, was completing like 70% of his passes in that stretch, threw like 8 or 9 tds and no picks. Now whether that had anything to do with kiffin who knows?
Coker won the job because he was a tough SOB but I don't think his passing was better necessarily at the end of the season as compared to the beginning.
