They made a lot of teams irrelevant, then.
Since 2007 when Saban came back and Meyer was nearing his peak at UF, the following SEC teams have changed coaches, excluding A&M and Missouri (although they have too) because they didn't enter the SEC until 2012:
Georgia
Tennessee
Kentucky
SC
Vandy
Florida
Auburn
Arkansas
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss State
Saban and Meyer ramped up expectations for everyone else, and no one has been able to meet those expectations.

If memory serves (and I didn't drink yet at the time so I think I'm in the ballpark) dg was 5/5 when we brought DJ in. You're right that was a major blunder.

Nope, I don't think you are confused; I just don't think you're being objective. You know full well that the state of Georgia is heavily recruited by many teams. As such some of the best instate talent has not gone to UGA during the Richt era; Cam Newton, Deshaun Watson, Josh Dobbs, Robert Nkemdiche, Evan Engram, etc. just to name a few. Recruiting was likely one of the main factors in our admins making the decision to go with Kirby Smart and in particular bringing in more of the cream of the instate crop to UGA.
And as I have told you previously, we obviously have "talent" on our team just not enough in key areas not the least of which is the OL. Again you use exaggeration/hyperbole to make a non-point. As such I will be disregarding your replies in the future since I conclude that you are not intellectually honest.

Why is it so difficult for you to wrap your head around the fact that people are willing to have more patience for a 1st year HC than we were for a HC with 10+ years experience? It's really not a difficult concept to grasp.

Talent in the State of Georgia is not the same thing as talent at the University of Georgia.

7 games in and the press is already going to bat for Smart??? I had some confidence until reading this....now all we need is for the AD to come out in support of Smart and we are fricked.
It may be the process but losing to ine of the worse Vandy teams EVER....and that is a long history of suck.....speaks volumes about the lack of a process. We didn't gave a clue or a plan in that game......it wasn't first year coaching or young QBing....it was plain stupid football....the kind of shite you see on Friday nights when a history teacher who played high school ball is appointed head football coach and has no idea....none....what to do. Smart may be a genius but he dug a hole he may not get out of coming out without a gameplan against Vandy

Dude. Really? We played for the SECC 5 of the 15 years Richt was here. 2012, if we had completed a pass from the 5 yard line would have played for the National Title. And yes, we contended for the east every year. All of your criteria has been checked off, yet you want to say he barely kept us relevant?
I said he kept us on the fringe of being relevant. You asked me to define what that means. I defined it.
So yes, all those criteria are checked...because those are my criteria for being on the fringe of relevancy.

There's no excuse for uga to ever lose to vanderbilt, under any circumstances..but I just had to point this out. There is absolutely zero way whatsoever this is one of vanderbilt's worst teams EVER, unless you've just started following vandy in the last 5 or 10 years.
This team will end up with at least 4 wins and has lost 3 SEC games by a total of 17 points. This team isn't very good but to say they are one of vandy's worst ever is simply not true. At all.

They definitely have a good defense. And, Webb is a pretty darn good running back. They are not very good, but they are hardly horrible, and they have had some horrible teams in the past.

However, do you honestly believe we have less talent than Vanderbilt?
I do believe that Vanderbilt is more talented in their defensive front 7 than we are in the OL, and that had a huge impact on UGA's ability to run the ball and finish drives.
The special teams miscues did the rest.

That was the frustrating part for me. I don't even put that on Smart. (I guess some of that has to be at his feet) A kid is taught in High School that you plant your feet at the 5 or 10 yard line and don't go back to field a punt. Davis had no idea where he was on the field when he stepped out of bounds on that kickoff. To me....that's on Davis. I understand that ultimately it lies at Smart's feet, but he simply does not have time to go over high school level fundamentals with a Junior in college.

Senior in college, so even worse.
Good opportunity to get Hardman some touches there imo. Might as well have freshman mistakes actually get made by freshmen. At least they have time to learn from them.

this is waht's mind blowing to me. Mecole is electric and we've already burned his redshirt on being a meaningless gunner, might as well let him get a shot or two at returning. I mean it's not like Reggie has been housing kicks left and right, he's straight line fast and had that one return in knoxville but so what? He's not good at KOR, might as well SEE what others can do.

I'll accept that...it is even easy to say they are better than the average Vandy team in my 51 years....and that explains how we lost to a more talented team with better coaching, better facilities, better recruiting and just a better all around program than ours.
It wouldn't matter if this is the best Vandy team in the history of their program there is no way they have better natural talent and experienced football players than we do...if you lined those people up and had them play sandlot football we would beat them by 70 points.....losing to them took some serious planning....you have to think long and hard to come up with a way for a football team with a talent gap like there is between Vandy and UGA to be able to DOMINATE the line of scrimmage the way Vandy did against our running game and win on the road in the SEC. If we had just lined up like a bunch of kids playing in the back yard we would boat race Vandy...instead we run the same play over and over and over again like it is a fricking pay for view scrimmage...run it til you get it right...and we haven't got that play right more than a handful of times in 7 games.....but we have run it about 6 and half trillion times....

they aren't more talented and don't have better stuff than us. They just outplayed and outcoached us last week. It happens.

I mean, I think its hard on a lot of the guys who have been here for a few years. This is totally new. Kirby is very hard on them. They are not used to it. They thought they had worked hard before, and they had a small amount of success. But now there’s a lot more work involved. I think it is taking some time to trickle into the bloodstream of the program. You are talking about changing a culture. That’s not done very simply.
this is it right here...this is the thing that idiots on this board don't understand or care to understand
