Has Auburn struggled because Gus was told not to cheat?

The huge controversy surrounding Cam Newton and his father was settled and no evidence was found to convict Auburn, but most people feel like there was some deception in the recruiting process of Newton. The year with Marshall was one of the luckiest seasons in the history of NCAA. Auburn has been good periodically throughout history, but what we are seeing here is something that's even bad for Auburn. I think they are recovering from years of cheating and it's taking a while to get all of it out of the program and learning how to win without it.

Auburn has consistently recruited top 10 talent every year. Take a look, they have 4-5* talent all over that roster.
What point are you trying to make?

No. They just suck.

They have a DL full of 5" because Gus is such a great recruiter?

No, Gus was told to limit his playbook to 5 plays per quarterback.

No. Seems to me Gus needs the exact right QB to run his system and for some reason he (1) hasn't recruited that QB (2) hasn't been able to develop that QB and/or (3) is incapable of changing the offensive to work with the personnel he has. This is all surprising to me. When he first came on the scene it seemed like he was innovative.

Gus is a stubborn a-hole
So I don't think being told not to cheat would impact him.

There's a lot more ways to cheat than by paying players to come there. Paying players to perform better in the games.

I've seen some bad threads on here over the years, but this has to be top 5. Congrats

Dating back to the Pat Dye days, the DL has been the area where AU has chosen to spend their money, same plan is still in effect.

Gus is a good guy like Les, and we all know where nice guys finish.

The coaches aren't putting them in a position to be successful.
The play-calling has been inept at times and just plain idiotic (whirly bird) other times, the roster management (QB carousel vs Clemson/Pettway?), and the oline personnel set up & blocking scheme has been poor and ineffective.

Been thinking this since last season. Now that Gus is having to lay low and can't recruit the cam Newton caliber players his offense has went to wet donkey shite

I'm really not trying to flame, I just don't see the Magic the Auburn program has been know for recently. I guess we were all fooled by thinking Gus was a good coach.

I've always heard from LSU friends living in B.ham for decades that the Little General shut down a lot of the over board cheating that was going on, specifically a system where AU players were directed to go a certain booster's chain of cleaners for their "dry cleaning". Upon picking up their clothes, the money was in the inside pocket. Story goes that he lost it when he heard how systematic is was; an AU alum supposedly told him :'Coach, we're tired of losing to bama. We mite as well cheat & win some games". Any one else in Aubb land heard this one?

Because there are several of these in every class right?

I get that this is a flame and everything, but if you put any stock in recruiting ranking then acquiring talent hasn't been our problem. Development is the area to attack. But like I said, I get that this is a flame and rationale goes out the window when it comes to flaming so continue

They could have paid Lamar Jackson to come there just like Cam.
