MSU doesn't have anything valuable enough to lose that would cause a big swing in the line

Lol, but seriously he might be out for the game. I have no news he is but that was a steep jump on the spread.

Vegas knows something and it sounds to me like MSU is going to be missing a QB or key players. Good gosh, yeah the line doesn't jump up like that without Vegas knowing something.

Most likely it is simply all the money was was being bet on LSU and the line needed to move to even out the bets.

"Vegas" just wants even money on both sides of the bet, lines have zero to do with actual predictions.

They want the exact same amount of winners as losers and simply collect the vig, not sure how that escapes so many.

I think Vegas is confused and thinks the line means can lsu score 16 points or not. In that light the line is about perfect

Agreed, the general rule is 100 grand over on either side moves the line 1 point.

Lots of time lines are manipulated, place a large enough bet one way to move the line and then bet the other side.

If the line moves over 1 point you can win both bets and the only downside is a push with the 10% on the losing bet. Most of the big sports books try to ID these but they often slip through, or are placed by multiple "drones"

Not saying this is what happened here but it is certainly not unheard of.

Google Billy Walters, he has made millions running this scam.

Once again...

VEGAS DOES NOT PICK WINNERS.

Lines in games are set to influence betting. That's it. If the line jumped it simply means that too much money was coming in on LSU.

They want even money on both teams. They collect the juice. They win.

Your aggravation is showing. It's ok my friend, Auburn will win an SEC game this year. There's a lot of hope for you guys. Don't give up yet. Don't do it.

As someone mentioned, lines are for betting only. That's easy money though.

I doubt that. LSU is no better than a 50/50 shot to score 16 points, let alone win by that many.

Jesus this is gonna be hard not to put money on. I'm thinking it's gonna be LSU 31 State 17 at the worst. I wouldn't be shocked if it was LSU 24 State 20

OK, I'm not sure how this works.

Say the line starts at LSU -9. People think LSU will win by more, so most of the money goes on LSU. Oddsmakers move the line, in this case possibly to 16 (huge move) so that people will bet on MSU to even out the money on both sides? Seems like this only works if the people who bet on LSU -9 have their bet changed to LSU -16 (otherwise, bookies stand to lose the bets on both sides if LSU covers 9 but not 16).

Is that really what happens? Why on earth would anyone ever bet on a game if their bet can be unilaterally changed by the bookie after they've placed it? If that's not what happens, then how does moving the line to even out the money on both sides help the bookies if it creates a middle range where they lose most of the bets on both teams?
