Some may recall as part of promotional effort for a sports betting site before the gov't clamped down on online betting around 08/09 I created the LeGit National Championship Title.
I expanded on the idea of a boxing/wrestling type title belt, winner takes all championship. I went back to the first 11 on 11 football game, that game was the first title match and followed the belt game by game to present day.
I instituted a couple rules to keep the belt at the highest level of collegiate competition. Mainly being only academic institutions that competed at the highest level of collegiate football are eligible to hold the belt. This eliminated a title loss by Yale pre-1900 to a club team and eliminated the military base teams during WWII.
Arkansas last held the belt in 2007 after beating LSU in 30T and promptly gave it up to Mizzou in that abortion of a Cotton Bowl that I thankfully was too hungover to have watched more than about 35 seconds of.
TCU has held the belt since Nov. 27 of last year beating Baylor 28-21 to win the belt back. TCU lost the belt to Oklahoma St. on Nov. 7, 2015 after successfully defending the belt 12 times after winning it from West Virginia on Nov. 1, 2014. Oct. 4th of 2014 TCU beat Oklahoma to win the belt. They dropped it to Baylor the very next week who lost it to WVU the next week who then lost it to TCU 2 weeks following.
The Big 12 has circle jerked the belt around since 2011 when stupid Auburn lost the belt to Clemson early in the season and Clemson gave it up to West Virginia in that epic 70-33 Orange Bowl beatdown.
We have a chance Saturday to bring the belt back home to the SEC where it rightfully belongs. Only a couple times in the history of the LeGit National Championship has the belt not naturally gravitated to the best team and we're currently in those of eras of paper champions due to shitty Auburn.
There's a lot to play for on Saturday least of which is my favorite team icon. Bring me home Hogs.

Know what's crazy, last Jan. I nearly talked TCU's Frog Club into giving me $10K.
remember there was a debate topic about TCU getting shafted out of the playoffs.
I pitched to them the idea to use the belt as a recruiting tool and to take it to booster club meetings and to give the team something to use as motivation etc.
I wanted to do a presentation at their spring game but it just took too long to get them to have their meetings and vote on it etc. Too many conference calls to just explain the concept and the belts couldn't be made in time to do a spring game thing for them.
I just kinda dropped it then. Maybe I should approach Draft Kings or some offshore betting site to back it. I'm not gonna waste any more time past tracking the games each week unless it can make some money beyond the original plan of signing up members at tailgates across the country.
I still think the current "playoff" is flawed. I support 12 ten-team conferences and 4 wild cards. Drop a season game or two, get rid of the patsy games, conference winners get in, top 4 ranked teams that didn't win their conference are wild cards and do a 16 team format and there's only 1 more game for the last 2 teams than they currently play.

I saw someone post the earlier in another post. Well done, had no idea one of our created this site.
I think it's pretty cool and could definitely see it getting some major traction with the right partner. Almost be promoting a "game of the week" just because of the Title Belt bragging rights.
Also didn't realize you were that old

Had no idea you were behind this. That's awesome. I've been checking the championship belt site periodically over the last several years.

Nope, that's a different one. They don't go as far back. The one I think you're referring to starts at WWII.
When I put this together there was one guy that started around 1970/1971 and there was a couple sites that compiled team records and attempted to have a box score and stats for as many games as they could track down.
I had to call a bunch of SID's and reference media guides for all sorts of little Northeastern schools to verify game records and double check the belt lineage.
We took our site down in 2010 after the betting site had to cease operations when they got shut out of the American market. I just haven't been inspired to build a database and put it back online.
