Cougars' Tom Herman to get $5M if school joins Power 5 conference

You make HIS pay based on what the school gets done? (And, it's "only" a bonus. Not the salary.)

Nice incentivizing.

Why are you posting this here? He is Austin bound. Deal with it.

If Houston goes P5, I wouldn't expect Herman to go anywhere.

The only exception would be Texas.

And Texas will pay him $10 mil… it's a lost cause for Houston going against the likes of UT or A&M.

I visited some USC message boards last night. They were mad because USC didn't interview him. If USC doesn't rebound from this loss.I have a feeling Herman will be there next year. I love this Houston team and i think they have to go undefeated to make the playoff, and I think they will. I think Herman will have his choice of a lot schools by year's end. He will not turn down USC, Auburn, Notre Dame,LSU,Texas, or Alabama(if Saban retires), if they asked him.

Are they going to all of sudden add world class facilities, historical tradition, or a massive fanbase?

They just aren't a major program. $5 million at Texas is infinitely more appealing than $5 million at Houston, and Texas could queef out $7 million a year without hesitating.

Herman will be gone after this year. He brought a ton of players back this year and knows his stock will never be higher. He's a very smart guy who will cash his chips in.

Honestly, watching videos and seeing articles about this coach makes me think he is going to be a pied piper any place he goes.

Praying he doesnt head to any SEC school or especially Knoxvegas...he is a winner with a capital T.

And why would he want to go to Texas? Sure...you have money and facilities but total control of the program is not one of the perks. A coach in Austin will always be hamstrung by the administration and by boosters. Why else do you think Texas has only won one national championship in the last 40 years?

Surprised the thread made it this far without the obligatory "Can we trade A&M for Houston?" post.

You guys are sluggish today.

I mean they've got a brand new stadium which is expandable to 50,000 seats.

They're building an indoor football facility which is mandated in Herman's contract.

They've got 42,000 students in a city of 2 million people. They're likely moving into the Big 12.

It's hard for me to see Herman leaving with Houston on the upswing.

They could upswing for 20 years and still not be Texas.

Exactly. Plus Houston is not getting invited to join Big XII. They don't add anything to the conference.

I'm cheering so hard for Texas this season. If Strong stays I really don't see why Herman wouldn't take the LSU job

Takes bonus, then replaces Sumlin

Texas A&M will be a lll "Take that SWC" for the gold Trans Am hustle

OrangeBlood would crash and melt harder than Hogsville

If Texas has all this $$,has great facilities and is so much better than -insert mame here- how come they struggle to land a top tier HC???

I mean its Texas right? Listening to you guys HCs should just be waiting by their phones clamoring for a ring with a bag packed.

sorry for the rant, just tired of all the "If we want him we can have him bs from the fans of some of these schools."

Remember how they had to go pretty far down the list to get a "Yes" when they were replacing Soggy Burrito a few months back?

It's like that, except their history and on field accomplishments in baseball are more impressive.

If you can't get a baseball coach to come in because of the shiteshow Dodds left in place, do you really think a top flight football coach wants to put up with it? I can think of several schools with comparable pedigree and resources but a fraction of the headache.

The facilities will follow if they get the Big XII bid, but they have a decent history from their old SwC days in football and basketball. They had a Heisman winner just a couple years before the SWC started breaking up.
