Kids go to play for the Alabama name, and the chance to play on Sunday, not necessarily Nick Saban. I think he built the system that way.

man, you couldn't be more incorrect. the head coach makes ALL the difference in the world. I could give you 50 years of examples. starting when the bear left bama, how about carrol leaving usc, notre dame, Miami, etc, etc.

bama has not always been a great team. take away the time of bear Bryant and nick saban and they've been a "normal" team or worse. they were wandering in the wilderness when they hired saban.

"Take away 35 of the last 58 years and they're not all that great."

First - Bear hasn't been gone for 50 years, but bad hires hurt that - not talent. Guys like Chris Samuels, Shaun Alexander, George Teague, Antonio Langham, etc still came to Alabama.

USC - probation hurt them after carroll. USC was good before carrol.

Notre Dame - They play a tough schedule every year. They are set in their ways and that holds them back as much as anything, but they've been decent.

Miami - as a program, Miami was only really good for less than 20 years TOTAL. And probation hurt their chances moving forward.

As for Bama being a "normal" team, they one SEC championships in the 80's and 90's without Bryant or Saban. They won a national title in '92 without being coached by Bryant or Saban. Only 3 teams in our conference won titles from the end of Bryant in SEC through the beginning of Saban in SEC. Florida, Tennessee, and Bama. That's not a "normal" team.

You ever heard of Wallace Wade or Frank Thomas? How many decades have Alabama gone without 10-win seasons. Hell man, Alabama has beaten LSU 2 out of 3 times throughout the entire history of the series!

Take away Bear and Saban and you still have Gene Stallings, Frank Thomas, and Wallace Wade so to say Bama would be a normal team is being disingenuous
