Will September 3, 2016 ever be matched again as the "best start" to a season?

The media has already stated that this is a unique weekend.
Alabama, Southern Cal, LSU, Clemson, Wisconsin, Auburn, UCLA, Florida State, Texas A&M, North Carolina, Georgia, Ole Miss.
All of those teams are opening the season against another team on that list.
Those are GREAT games between big football schools.
Just wondering if these type of games will become more common in the future, in this magnitude, to open the season? I, personally, hope so.
It would be great to see some teams like Iowa, Florida, Oregon, Texas, and Ohio State in the mix in the future.
I also think that if you open the season with a "big game" while everyone else played a "nobody" then you should get "points" at the end of the season when Bowl Games are awarded. Your team is just not the same team at the beginning of the season as they are at the end.

Alabama kicks off next season against Florida State.

Great non-conference matchups used to be the norm, not the exception.

Florida opens with Michigan next year.

Iowa?
And yes, it will be matched. That the trend now, but unfortunately it comes at the expense of week 2.
TBH, I'd rather be playing a warm up game.

That was an interesting way to present the match ups

ETA: I know AU opens against Oregon in Jerry World next year (maybe 2018), and doing a home-home with Penn State after that. I think it will be the new normal.

Florida vs Michigan to START the season in 2017 is awesome.
That is what I am talking about!

I did that purposely. All of those teams are great to watch on opening weekend...it just so happens that one particular team in that list plays another particular team ON that list.
I find that respectable. I didn't want it to turn into a "who plays who" type of dick-measuring contest.

OSU usually doesn't play their big OOC games week 1. They played Labor Day last year but that was moved to accommodate ESPN opening weekend.

I was surprised Oklahoma plays Ohio St in week 3.
They have some balls scheduling Houston and. OSU as 2/3 non conference games
Although I'm sure when they scheduled Houston they didn't plan on them being a top 15 team to start the season

How many of those are neutral site games? You lose some of the magic of college football when you move games off campus but there's no denying those matchups.

We normally don't either, but I think that this is a great trend for College Football.

I HATE the neutral site thing too, but like you said, those are great games. I think it is in Auburn's best interest if we stick to home/homes in the future. We have already burnt Jay Jacob's arse over this. College Football means "College" Football. Campus vs. Campus.

Not until 2019

Will become more common. Driven by the SOS factor of the CFP. Helps you if you win. Doesn't kill you if you lose.
