the settlement agreement specifically provides that the university is not admitting guilt, negligence or unlawful acts.

This was much more expensive than the Hostess Program.

It's whatever their agreement said I assume.

100% agree. The problem is, having this drag on for 3 more years was gonna be twice as expensive (not to mention the negative PR damage, and negative recruiting impact) as settling, even if UT was completely innocent.
It sucks, but this is the world we live in now.
This will probably be the only time I'll ever agree with you, but I do in this case. If what these girls and Bowles were alleging was true, the school should have had to pay a lot more, jones should be fired, and some people should be in jail. If it was all a lie, the school, jones, and the accused should be able to get every penny these girls and Bowles ever make to pay all of their lawyer fees. they should also get punitive damages for the damage to their reputation. I don't want to say all of these people were lying because I can't imagine going through something like this and being accused of lying about this, but this small of a settlement and letting the school be able to say they have no guilt certainly makes it look like a money grab. I understand it might be better to get what you can now and move on with your life without having to relive everything, but I'd bet the school offered more money than this originally to make it all go away.

Of course, we were guilty. Everybody knows that - except us who know better.

How many times was "Rocky Top" played following the announcement of the settlement?
Posted on 7/6/16 at 9:41 am to bamawriter
I'm playing it every time a ranter makes a butthurt post about this settlement.
I might even be tired of Rocky Top before the end of the day

congratulations your University and Football Administration admitted to facilitating the sexual assaults of coeds.
I didnt know we had Baylor's twin in the SEC

Are you illiterate or just stupid? The university has admitted no wrongful doing, illegal acts, or negligence.
The plaintiffs settled anyway. So much for principles and bringing all this "dirty business" to light. /sarcasm

Wish they would have stood up to them and decided to not give the money grabbers what they wanted. But I can understand just wanting the issue to go away.

Unfortunately, nothing good would have come from that.

quote:UT paid penny's on the dollar compared to the $100mm asking price from the plaintiffs. They admitted to zero guilt, negligence, wrong doing. They were given a serious wake up call with this case and they know to educate their student-athletes. They get this shite behind them and out of the bad PR.

I don't think this could have ended any better for UT - it's a win-win situation.

Also true. I just said that based on principle, but I would say this did turn out relatively favorably for UT.
Also it's pretty ridiculous that none of the 8 plaintiffs were personally violated or even claimed to be, and they wanted 12.5 mil per person. Like, even if there was some sort of "rape culture" behind all of this, the compensation should go to the actual victims anyway, not these plaintiffs.
