Is it weird that I'm not really worried about Florida?

Every year, despite how good we may seem, I'm always leery of jacksonville. Which is understandable considering that during my formative years we lost every season, adn even under one of the best (arguably the best) coaches we've ever had we still got beat far more than we won. Even looking at recent memory...in '11 and '13 we had far better teams and barely won both games, both by 1 possession. In '12 we were pretty evenly matched and escaped in the final minute. In '14 we were almost surely better but got embarrassed, badly. Last year they were definitley better but we didn't even belong on the same field.
Which brings us to '16. They are the defending east champs entering year 2 under the new staff, which is typically a year where you see huge strides. We have a brand new coaching staff, first year head coach, questions at QB/OL/WR/DL. Yet....I dont' really feel very worried. Is that normal? UNC, Ole Miss, and UT are way higher up on my worry list as of this moment. I'm not claiming we're going to beat the crap out of UF, or hell even beat them at all. But something just feels different. Does anyone else feel like that?

Given they have pretty much beaten us to a puddle the last 2 years with a coach on this way out and another first time SEC head coach, yes it is weird.
However, both of those losses I lay firmly and squarely at the feet of richt who unbelievably did not have the team ready to play vs Florida of all teams.
I don't know if we will win or not, but I will be crestfallen if they come out flat as a pancake ala richt and I don't think they will.

It's because of Kirby. To this point, he has done everything right (and, in some cases, gone above and beyond what we could reasonably hope for) and he doesn't yet have the Duvall County hex hanging over him the way Richt did. Plus, Florida was an unremarkable team last year that won the East over an underachieving Tennessee team, a mediocre UGA squad, and a horrible rest of the division. I mean they won with a sunburnt woodchuck as their coach and a backup QB that could barely throw downfield
ETA: That being said, it doesn't mean we should be counting a win in Jax this year by any stretch (Florida owns our arse - again - until proven differently) but it doesn't necessarily mean we should be quaking in our boots either. There's some reason to hope things will finally change

Yea, I mean I know this year isn't last year and all that but they kicked our arse last year. I just can't be all that confident in that game until I see something different.

For some reason, Richt just could not get everything in place and amp our guys up to beat UF most years. I think the Florida teams we have seen in the past few years simply haven't been as intimidating as the teams we were used to seeing with Urban Meyer at the helm. That doesn't mean they aren't good or that we will absolutely beat them, but something has changed in Gainesville and they haven't been getting the incredible athletes that Urban was able to attract and they haven't had good depth on their offensive line in some while. Now, they are still a good ball club but I admit that I just haven't been impressed with them even in the past two years where they have destroyed us. I think we are the better team this year and I think Kirby has us play with a huge chip on our shoulder going into JAX this year...I agree though that UNC, Ole Miss, and UT are more worrisome games mainly because they are earlier on in the year though (in my opinion).

I'm not really worried about any particular game this year. I don't have any expectations and am just hoping for the best. Hopefully by week 5 I can start to get worried again.

Id be worried about it always comes down to us and them for who will represent the east .Not saying that will be the case this year but it always seems that way imo.

I think you also hit on a great point.
-With goff we were coming off of 2 decades of owning UF but saw real quick that that run was over. The worm started to turn not only for fans but the team's mindset after starting to lose to them every season
-Enter donnan and now it's full blown "we have a problem, we cannot beat florida" situation.
-Enter Richt, and we're coming off 11 years with 1 win over UF. We continued losing to them when we shouldn't have.
Now, at the point Kirby is coming in, we've won 3 of the last 5 meetings. There isn't the mindset of "well chalk UF up as an automatic loss" like we'd seen before. Pretty much everyone on our staff has been around programs that are used to beating florida. We actually haven't been in a siutation like this in a while, and to make things even better we dont' have spurrier or meyer on the other sideline.

I've got battered wife syndrome when it comes to Florida.

I think it helps, as well, that Kirby was around and played during that time period you mentioned during which not only UF was pushing our shite in on the reg but also heard all the shite Spurrier talked and preached about the path to Atlanta running through Athens.
I don't think it's lost on him that the tide in the East turns based on taking back the series against UF. Tennessee and South Carolina, Auburn and Tech, those will work themselves out. But Florida has to become our number one priority as a program if we want to contend year in and year out. They recruit as well as us, they play as well as us, they have close to equal if not better history then us (sucks but their run these past 20 years makes it true). The game in Jacksonville is a virtual dress rehearsal for the SECCG and beyond in terms of talent on the field, electricity in the stadium, and what's at stake. We must own them above all others

You said "Ami saying we'll win? Hell no!"
That's basically guaranteeing a UGA victory. Accept the fact that we lost last year because of you.

I guess I confused that with the hundred other times you've been dead wrong.
