Watch this.

My magic trick is that I can take Sarge and make him refuse to tell me he believes a bible verse. I guarentee he won't say yes. All he has to say is "yes".

Sarge, do you believe this bible verse is true?

(Regarding a girl and premarital sex)
quote:

Deuteronomy 22: 20-21
20 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found, 21 she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done an outrageous thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from among you.

People are mad at ISIS for stoning woman. They're only taking what their holy books say literally. What's the problem? You guys say you believe the bible. I'm giving sarge a chance to say he believes it.

Most religions haves always been about the interpretation of their beliefs/texts. In a primarily Christian-heavy society, we don't cut the hands off thieves or kill divorcees. Some Christian churches have chosen to allow the marriages of same-sex couples in their churches because of their interpretation of the Bible, while others condemn it. ISIS declared Ramadan as one of the "bloodiest periods" using their interpretation of the Quran but Mainstream Muslims believe Ramadan is at time of peace and ISIS is in direct violation of that.

For some sects of Christianity, they believe the Bible should be accepted word for word. A lot do not. Your "calling out" is pretty silly when you consider that.

This is pretty easily explained. I don't have the knowledge or the time to look up specific verses to prove this but the jist is. When Jesus came and was crucified that was the permanent sacrifice for our sins. He established a new and more direct connection to God that didn't exist in the Old Testament. We no longer have to have a priest make sacrifices on our behalf for the sins that we commit. Because of this the laws of the Jews no longer is necessary.

Yes.

But.

There is a difference between Mosaic, Levitical, and New Testament Law. Additionally, we are gentiles, not old testament Jews. So that further separates us from it. I could go farther, but I left you a small Avenue for rebuttal there, I can't wait to see if you take the road I left open.

And supposedly you went to seminary, so I'm sure you knew what I posted.

i dont have all the answers but you are only looking at half of the book. pretty sure somewhere in the new test. that the old test laws are essentially "moot" because of what he said/did/accomplished. i'm the furthest thing from a bible thumper but at least make sure you arent arguing, once again, a moot argument

ETA from a simple google search: Hebrews 8:6 and Hebrews 8:13 would be the applicable verse to this situation.

ETA again: Christians do not have to keep the law of Moses because those laws were a temporary package, designed to be in force only until the Messiah came. Now that he has come and given us a better covenant, the first is obsolete.

Those were my thoughts before opening this thread, and it worked.

I thought you were "free". You're still sounding like that ex-girlfriend who claims to have moved on, but won't stop bashing her ex bf. Quit fooling yourself.
