Worth noting that Daniel Nichols is back in the lineup

Gist has given up 3 runs with 2 outs in the 3rd. Already at 60+ pitches.
Need to get him out of there if we want to actually remain in this game
ETA: 5 of the 6 Tech base runners this inning were sitting at 2-strike counts

King just struck out swinging on what would have been ball 4 to take the lead

I know I've ragged on the pitching all season but we are just bad at plating runs when we get guys in scoring position. I have no idea what you do to fix that but we're really good at getting lead off runners on base and finding ways to get them on 2nd and 3rd but we just fall the frick apart from there

That's what I've been saying all year. Imagine if we someone put both together....we would actually be up there

We've gotten a lot better at the plate as the season has gone on. Guys are being more selective, driving up pitch counts and fighting off pitches. But as soon as we get someone in scoring position its like their buttholes clench up and they all start gasping for breath. I can only think its mental and I have no idea what you can do about it but hope they work it out.

Case in point: we get Talley to 2nd with 1 out. Keegan McGovern grounds out to 2nd but at least pushes Talley to 3rd. And then... Mitchell Webb pops up the first pitch in foul territory.
fricking unbelievable

Blake Cairnes comes in and strikes out 2 of 4 batters faced. Dawgs can win it all with one swing of the bat.
King, Weber, Wrenn due up

King grounds out, 1 away
Weber strikes out swinging
Wrenn strikes out swinging.
Well, extra innings which never makes me feel comfortable.

Well, theres Patrick Sullivan with his own SportsCenter Top 10 play, diving after a foul ball into the first row and making the catch

2 run homer by Tech. Well, it was a fun season but unless we sweep Tennessee (possible but I doubt it) then we'll go to Hoover and be done for the year. Shouldn't have lost to fricking Charlotte.

And another solo shot. Definitely ballgame

You're definitely more knowledgeable on this stuff than me but I view our tourney chances as less bleak.
If we win 2 vs. Tennessee, then 2 in Hoover we'd be 30-30 and have a top 30 RPI. I know teams have gotten left out in similar spots but I think the majority of those situations result in a team making the tourney.
Granted our history in Hoover isn't good so I'd much rather sweep UT then not have to worry about finishing below .500

Yes, winning in Hoover helps. However, you should never rely on winning in Hoover (given that you're playing the best teams in the country) and you have to also remember that Hoover is double elimination so you're looking at basically two automatic losses in your record unless you win it all

For me, this just goes to show why winning close non conference games is so damn important. Don't drop games late to ga southern or WKU and you're fine. Don't lose to a bad Charlotte squad and you're fine. All I can hope is that this squad and program grew up a lot by facing the schedule it did. I think they have but lord knows they're still far from a perfect team
