Between the rising cost of things like engagement rings and just wedding costs in general, it makes a ring that can be upgraded later and eloping very very tempting.

I tried to pitch this idea, but her mom was more than willing to foot the bill for the wedding and I know how important family is to her. Plus, all her cousins have had big, crazy fun weddings, so I know she wanted to have something our own, but in the same vein.

Since I had a really great job at the time, I spent more than I should have on the ring, but the thing is gorgeous. Plus, I have the option to trade the diamond in, in the future, and get at least as much as I paid for it towards a larger diamond.

Yep.

We both have student loans we're paying off and we're trying to save for a down payment on a house. Spending several thousand for a ring and wedding just aren't in the cards if we want to meet our financial goals.

We will probably elope and then have a party at her parents' house for friends and family to attend.
