Wish him the best. He's making the best choice for him!

I guess an NIL deal while planning to go pro is nothing more than normal
endorsement money.

I think he's fooling himself thinking he has some sort of offensive perimeter game but hope nothing but the best for him going forward.

Kessler doesn’t have much to offer from an offensive standpoint past dunking. He has plenty of room to improve but I don’t see much improvement from the perimeter. His shot is a little slow, little rigid, and uncertain. Add onto that he will have to shoot from a deeper line to nail a 3 in the NBA. Unlike someone like Timme, his footwork and offensive prowess under the basket aren’t that great either.
I will be surprised if he goes first round. Most likely second. He is the Naismith defensive player of the year and that counts for something. If his offense isn’t great then he has to be able to step out of the paint and defend there or else
he’s just another Austin Wiley. Albeit a taller Wiley that can still have a better impact as a tree under the goal. He has stepped out with some success. Sometimes he recovered a hair slow and allowed made baskets whether by goaltending or not, but he recovered many other times as well.
Overall my outlook on Kessler is little dim.

Kessler has a much better offensive game than you all realize...good pick-&-roll rim runner and finisher with both hands. He'll be good on the pick-&-pop as well in a few years.
Remember when Brook Lopez couldn't shoot and they said the game passed him by? Now he's improved his outside shot so much they call him Splash Mountain.
Kessler is already a better shooter & defender than he was at this stage. He'll be fine, just has to work. Tools are there.

Ok so he can dunk just like I said. Other than that skillset, crickets. Now that you mention Brook, you can’t tell me Kessler’s game around the rim is nearly as good Brook’s was in college. Brook was a volume shooter in college because of his skill set. Aka they made sure he touched the ball.

Just bc you don’t see it (shocker) doesn’t mean the potential isn’t there… he was good touch and shoots free throws well… if given more opportunity to face the basketball, it’s very possible he develops a consistent mid-range game…. And can hit the occasional spot 3.

Having potential is hardly a great argument. The fact that you disagree (shocker) leads me to believe I’m once again on the right track.

Lol… that’s all the draft is - potential.
If the draft was about production that white kid from Bryant would be the #1 overall pick.

quote:I’m not even saying he won’t get drafted so your argument is pretty pathetic. He will be drafted because of his defense first and foremost. If his defense sucked as bad as his offense did he wouldn’t even get drafted despite all the potential you might see.

Kessler averaged 2 FTA attempts a game as a 7’1 big and y’all are talking about the potential of 20% 3 point shooter. Pass the joint.

You clearly haven't been watching the NBA Draft the last 25 years...

I’m not even saying he won’t get drafted. Are you that dense? He will get drafted 3 ball or not.

Brook
1) Was the #1 option at Stanford so he got to be a volume shooter and develop his game because
2) Brook didn't play with a top 3 pick
Lastly, I'm not arguing the draft statement. I just find your assessment as a whole to be loud and wrong.

Johnie Broome is in the portal.
That’s our Walker Kessler replacement. Do what it takes to get him.

quote:Me too. I can see him carving out maybe a Jon Koncak/Greg Ostertag type career as a good upside. He needs to gain about 50lbs to do it though.

1. Brook had 10x the offensive game than Kessler at that point. He averaged 7 FTA and 19 PPG, and took more difficult shots than alley oops. Brook was a top 10 pick.for good reason.
2. Kessler’s USG went down at Auburn from North Carolina’s because he had zero game.
