The University of South Carolina’s 2016 spring football practice dates and times have been set. The Gamecocks are slated to open their spring drills on Tuesday, March 15, and conclude with the annual Garnet & Black Spring Game on Saturday, April 9.
In addition to the spring game, two of the spring practice sessions will be open to the public. Those open sessions will be on Tuesday, March 29, and Thursday, March 31.
The weekday practices will take place at the new practice fields, located at the west end of Gamecock Park, beginning at 4:30 p.m. If inclement weather should arise, the practices may be moved into the new indoor practice facility. All dates and times are subject to change.
All fans and media attending the practice sessions at the practice fields are asked to stay behind the yellow rope. Parking will be available in Gamecock Park with access off National Guard Road. Video photography will be allowed during the flex (stretch) and first three periods only. Players will not be available for autographs before, during or after the practice sessions. Pets are not permitted on the practice fields.
The Garnet & Black Spring Game will begin at noon at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, April 9. Admission is free. More information regarding the spring game will be announced at a later date.

I'll be in Honolulu for most of Spring Practice ... leaving on the day it starts. But I'll be back in time for the Spring Game.
I really hope we have a good turnout for the Spring Game. I kinda think we will if there are no steeplechases or golf tourneys that day.
Would love to see the QBs improve.
Really looking for the defense to show more intensity.
Don't want any major injuries.
Hoping some of the new guys catch-on quickly and all of the returning guys come ready to work.

Someone needs to tell Boom that the Spring Game needs to be moved to the next week. I'm surprised Spurrier always had it the week of the Masters.

I forget how it works - but the coaches don't have any say so. I think it is coordinated between the SEC home office and the athletic departments and staggered for TV purposes from late March through late April with about half of the conference typically playing their games mid April or the 16th I think it is this year. Most of the B1G plays theirs the following weekend ... but no one cares.
So all of the conference's spring games are going to be broadcast on the SEC Network this year. Vandy and Florida are playing theirs on a Friday night I heard. And I heard Kirby Smart begging his fans to turn out, wants 93k at his spring game. Last game played will probably be Arkansas again this year maybe?
Two or three SEC programs have to play our game on the 9th I think, but I forget who the others are. Auburn and A&M maybe, but it's an all day thing on the SEC Network.

At practice right now. Few notes...
Orth again started at qb during opening drills. David Williams and Talley were top two backs. Lots of runs, each qb had a chance or two to make a throw
Orth way overthrew his man
McIlwain was next and had the only completion I believe.
Mitch with two picks
Nunez with a pick
Tempo, tempo, tempo...coaches want that more than anything right now

No kidding ... especially when you consider they were only in shells.
Today they go-all-out in pads so there will be a little popping.

QB Nunez is done for the spring. He hyperextended his knee and will miss the rest of the practices.

Chris Moody back on the team apparently.

I saw that. Never really been impressed with him, but he does have a lot of experience. Also heard tonight that Chris Lammons has moved over to safety.

Champ said yesterday that Nunez could be back as early as next week. He is already getting annoyed with our press lol. I recommend watching the video of him after practice yesterday. Some guy asked what he thought our uniforms, the word he actually used was "Wardrobe", would look like in the fall. A first year coach in a struggling team after one week of practice and that is what you ask? Come on man.

Well he is a UGA grad.
He also looks like Elmer Fudd

Orth is done for the spring. He broke his collarbone in today's scrimmage.

More 1st team reps for McIlwain

This is getting to be a tough situation right now with QBs.
With 2 QBs out, our best bet would probably be with McIlwain (Mitch being second.) Scarnecchia might as well transfer a this point. I know Nunez's injury wasn't as serious, so maybe he could be ready to go, but who knows if the staff is even planning on him to be a QB with that running game of his.

Well, a good side (if it can be called a good side) to both Orth and Nunez injuries is it gives the other QBs ample opportunities to step up and show what they can do. That is all a kid can ask for, and if he gets it but can't earn a role for himself, then he has no one to blame but himself. It answers questions for him, and he can't go around saying, "I could've played more and well for the team, but I wasn't given the chance to"....

I do agree with this. I'm so curious to see if Brandon is starter material this soon. You never know until you give him an opportunity, I guess!
