No. It isn't. Auburn did it in 2010. Look across the country at all the times teams played each other in the regular season, then played again for the conference championship...it happens more often than you think.

Better question,

When is the last time your alma mater lost a national championship to mine (Alabama)?

I know it happens. LSU did it in 2003.

The argument was that great teams can beat someone twice. LSU could not beat Alabama twice in 2011. Therefore, 2011 LSU was not a great team and not worthy of claiming a championship.

Switch LSU and Alabama in the above argument and share your position: A) beating someone twice is really difficult or B) 2011 Alabama is not worthy of claiming a championship.

Dude, it has been five years. I recommend just moving on and finally accepting the outcome (see below). Florida State doesn't still melt about having to play Florida again for the 1996 NC do they?

So for your own good, just say this out loud ... "LSU finished second in the 2011 season." All your histrionics will not change that result.

LSU still beat Bama's arse on their own home field in 2011.

2011 LSU was SEC champs.
2011 Bama was 3rd in the SEC.

The University of Alabama 2015/2016 CFPO champs.

I was a student for the 1992 National championship and was at the super dome for the game. Had a Scooby snack in the 3rd quarter after Bama went up 27-6...We left Tipatinas at daylight. Ah fun times, glory days. RMFT

If you think barely scraping by in overtime game on several missed field goals and a questionable interception vs joint possession call is an arse beating, I'd really like to know how you'd describe a 21-0 game where the team that got shut out only had one offensive play in their opponent's half of the field, at a venue an hour's drive away from their home field.

And if you think that an hour's drive is too much to say home field, then please kindly stop complaining about the SEC offices being an hour away from Tuscaloosa.

LSU would have had 2 TDs in Tuscaloosa. They ran out of time at the end of the first half and settled for a FG from the 1. They would have had a TD in OT, but only needed another chipper to win the game of the century.

Alabama never really threatened the goal line. I don't even think all of their 50 yard FG attempts threatened the goal line.

Time has warped your memory of that game.

That's part of the game, and is completely irrelevent. One could just as easily make the case that LSU could've gone for it, come up empty, the game goes to halftime and then the game never goes to OT thereby eliminating your other hypothetical touchdown.

So even if you get that TD to end the first half, and going on the fallacious hypothesis that rest of the game plays out the same way, your arse beating consists of LSU winning 10-6 (Not exactly what I'd call an "arse-beating")

We had at least 5 trips inside the 30 yard line

First, I didn't call the game of the century an arse beating.

That's part of the game,

I couldn't have said it better myself. Everything that happened was "part of the game" (missed 50 yard FGs, dumb trick play INTs, etc.) and LSU won the game. Alabama won a rematch. I don't believe Alabama can be deemed a champion just because they won the 2nd game. Split title in my book.

Goodness, fortunately what you believe has no bearing on the actual title determination.

That 2nd game wasn't just another game. It was THE GAME for the National Title. Just because it was rematch that doesn't have any bearing on which team earned the distinction of National Champions. Bama was the better team that year and anyone not looking through LSU goggles agrees.

So in your mind Super Bowl champions, colleg basketball teams and etc. who have a split record with the team they beat in the final championship game are not the sole champs that season?

Trophies for everyone I guess.

The club team or the actual NCAA sanctioned one?

I tell you what, this blonde sitting beside me could win a national championship in something other than sports.

I love the Oxford square.
