Of course it's just a threat and will never happen, but if you look deeper its a systemic problem in college football.

These schools spend an insane amount of money on football and it looks particularly bad for schools that are in dire straits financially like LSU.

LSU football and the LSU AD give money back to the school. This is beyond stupid and it's shameful it's even being mentioned.

LSU football can survive off it's own funding.

The real question is if we get to fall and LSU is still shutdown, would the NCAA allow them to compete in events? Can they have a football team without any basketball, baseball, or any of the women's sports?

The school spends zero dollars on football. The state spends zero dollars on LSU football. The school and state spend zero dollars on LSU sports entirely.

I mean, frick, even the city of Tuscaloosa pays for police presence at Alabama football games.

This has nothing to do with LSU sports and everything to do with trashy Louisiana politics and how poorly our higher institutions are funded.

Many of the campuses in Louisiana should be shuttered, permanently. The black college system should be disbanded and any programs of worth folded into successful institutions. TOPS should be treated as a loan, to be paid back if the student flunks.

So what? They also bring in an "insane amount of money".The real issue is
Title IX and the "insane" amount of money that non revenue sports cost these
schools.

I really know nothing about Louisiana's finances etc but this is not what the governor is saying at all in the snippet you linked.

He says nothing about cutting any funds to the football program (which I would imagine doesn't cost the school any real money and may give back more than it takes).

What he seems to be saying is that lack of funding for the school in general may cause a crisis in which classes are stopped for all students and students will not receive grades.

The threat this would cause to the football program is not that they would lose funding but that the players would not be academically eligible since classes would have been stopped and no grades given.

I do agree that he mentions the potential football effect to deliver a "shock" but says nothing about football funding.

LSU's athletic department gives money back to the school. TAF handles the financials--even the coaches' salaries come out of private funds
