Men's Soccer, Women's Gymnastics, and Beach Volleyball

People have been posting about other SEC sponsered sports the last few days. Why don't we add a Women's gymnastics team? If we did that and added a beach volleyball team (soon to be NCAA sanctioned), then we shouldn't have any issues adding a Men's soccer team. We need to get ahead of the curve on Men's soccer. It's gonna blow up in the NCAA soon enough. We have almost 50k undergrads. It's not like we don't have the resources to handle the administrative side of a few new sports. Thoughts?

Is an SMU the only school in Texas with a men's soccer team?

Texas Lutheran, UT Dallas, Southwestern, SMU, and Midwestern State. I know St. Edwards has one too, but they are probably D2.
Edit: They are D2. There are 8 D2 programs in the state along with the 5 D1 programs.

Beach Volleyball gets an up vote...women's beach volleyball specifically.

Beach Volleyball will only be a Women's sport I believe. Could be wrong on that.

Women's Gymnastics
We for sure have the talent base to call on to field a very competitive team. This state produces elite women's gymnasts out the wazoo but doesn't field a college team for them. It's like if LSU didn't have a football team.

That's the only one I care about, but there are men's beach volleyball competitions(maybe not SEC though).

It's probably club or intermural. I don't think it's NCAA sanctioned.

Add women's lacrosse. Fields are already striped at Penberthy. Florida and Vandy have D1 programs.

Couldn't agree more, and it would be nice to get a jump on the other big schools in Texas and establish a major soccer program first.

If we add women's lacrosse, they will add men's lacrosse too. It only makes sense. Personally, I would rather see soccer. Gymnastics is the obvious first choice for a new womens sport because the SEC already sponsers it. Beach volleyball is 2nd, because it's a new sport. If we needed a 3rd for title IX, then lacrosse would be a good choice. I would just be worried that soccer would get pushed aside for men's lacrosse.

We could dominate gymnastics if we can lock down the Houston area.

We would dominate men's soccer if we added it. Houston has a huge soccer talent pool. Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin kids may want to stay close to home. A&M would be the closest school to Houston with a D1 program.

Selfishly, I'm for adding any and all men's and women's sports b/c I want to see more Aggie Olympians.
Can't win if you don't play.

Men's Soccer would be so awesome. We'd be damn good at it too.

Texas already has a few D1 men's programs: Houston Baptist, SMU, Incarnate Ward. An issue with starting a men's program would be playing surface. Ellis field is not capable of more than twice the amount of beating it receives now. The field is extremely soft and this makes it unsuitable for the extra force Men would bring to it.

Adding a wrestling program could help in football recruiting, but so would building a new outdoor track facility.

In 50 years soccer will have replaced football for top men's sport.
