He grew up here, played HS football in Georgia, dad is a longtime well known/well respected HS coach, etc.

Plus a lot of the guys he played with have become high school coaches.

Kirby is very well respected in Georgia and has great relationships with coaches. That's not to say Richt didn't as well. I'm sure there are guys that Richt wasn't that tight with that Kirby is, and vice versa.

I'd say they're on par with Mike Bobo

Crow I always thought CKS and Bobo would have been a great recruiting combo.

I'd agree with this. I think that many on Richt's staff had some pretty strong relationships with GAHS coaches, but it sure seemed like Richt failed to "play the game" a bit with the HS coaches here and as a result didn't exactly have a strong pipeline from many of the perennially talented metro-Atlanta programs. He also offset that with some great relationships with coaches in Florida, so give and take I'm sure. Kirby being less removed from being an active recruiter I think just by its very nature allows him to have a closer relationship with many of the coaches. This may change over the next 15 years as well, but just based on a limited first recruiting season, I'd say it looked an awful lot like he was putting in more effort... effort that often leads to coaches and their players feeling "more important" or in the vernacular of the modern athlete, "he recruiting (them) the hardest".

From what I know about the two, Kirby is going to go visit every touchdown club in every podunk town across the state of Georgia and smile a big arse smile and shake every hand along the way. Dude loves him some GA and loves to politic around the state.

Richt would sooner be at home with his family or working on something else. He'd hit the major cities, do the prescirbed media tour around the state, and then call it a day until it was time to visit specific recruits in their homes or at their schools.

The primary difference is Kirby doesn't just want to build a relationship with the kid and his family. He wants to build a relationship with anyone that kid might know or see on a daily basis. He's very much so in the business of getting to know anyone and everyone whereas Richt was content to do what he knew needed to be done and then move on.

In regard to those booster clubs and stuff, it also helps that Kirby's wife is something of a UGA celebrity herself and may be more inclined to also go to those. Between that and his dad's status as a coach in the state, those are probably much more of a "family" event than they were for Richt.

Carlos Robertson actually gave a little love to UGA and its academics. Who knew.

I don't even think Demetris is running his recruitment. In the 247 post about the family going back to see notre dame, its his brother talking about how he wants to see the campus. Not once does he talk about what Demetris thinks. I think he is to involved in the kids recruitment, let the man make a decision he's the football player not Carlos.

Certainly not getting my hopes up, but that sounded awfully positive for us. If you didn't hear Kirby's press conference today, he mentions doing extensive research on all the guys he played with that didn't make the NFL and where they are now showing their successes. Sounds like Kirby gave them his best shot. Sure would be nice getting Drob.

My question about this whole thing is what the heck were they doing all of these years? It seems all of his recruiting has taken place over the past 4-6 months. Just a really odd way to go about it all to me. To each their own though..let's hope one of these days he picks the Dawgs.

He's headed back to South Bend this weekend with the Broager. Apparently his first visit there was solo. I think we might see a decision in the coming weeks, and they're going to bail on Stanford. My money is on ND, but I'd love to see him suit up for the good guys.

Weather looks like it could be questionable depending on when he gets there. If that Sunday/Monday weather pulls forward at all, could have some wintry mix and chilly temps... not that I think it would play a huge role, but could be lackluster on the heels of a great trip to Athens assuming their academic pitch doesn't wow him significantly more than UGA's.

They're definitely sounding like they're currently on a UGA high. That much alone is encouraging, especially when it sounds as if they've turned a corner with respect to academics in Athens. The fact that they've stressed this point while saying that Alabama is under serious consideration is laughable.

I feel like we have a decent shot if he doesn't make the score for Stanford. Still looks like a ND lean if that's the case but I feel like Kirby and our staff knocked his visit out of the park and have really exhausted all of their efforts on this kid. Ultimately, it will come down to what his family feels is best so we'll see.

Can't FULLY blame Richt for that. Saban put a limit to the number of public appearances he made. Heard on the radio is was 12 a year. The school could ask him to go to 12 caravan stops...meet one on one with a major booster, or whatever they wanted, but 12 was the limit. Once 12 was hit he could refuse.

Now, Saban also had several Titles to his name that Richt did not have, so titles tend to give you more leeway!

I can see it both ways. high School kids might make a decision based on girls, or feelings etc. A more mature eye is not a bad thing to have in making a big decision like this. AND, Carlos does seem to be making academics an important factor, and that is not a bad thing either. If Demetrius gets hurt, he will be glad he went to a good academic school.

However, the kids likes and dislikes need to be considered, too. It's a delicate balance.

I tend to agree. The history he will see when he goes to ND will be very moving. Plus it is a very strong academic school. Like you, though, I hope he stays home and wears red and black. I am hoping the brother wants to see Demetrius play live every week. But, ND games are carried every week on national tv, so.....

I don't know. I've played in snow, and I can say I didn't like it one bit. Hands hurt like a sonofagun and water seeps right through the cleats to freeze the feet. I did not want to play in snow on a regular basis. of course, playing in the heat and humidity of Georgia in September is not a lot of fun, either.

I don't know why all games can't be played in 50-60 degree weather!
