Saban is doing it in a much more competitive era.

I started going to games in the 60s. Both coaches are the best in there era. I thought CPB would never be equaled. What CNS has done is unprecedented. He will one day be acknowledged as the GOAT. No Bama fan will ever forget what Bryant means to the school, just that there is a new sheriff in town.

You all owe it to yourself to get informed about Coach Bryant. He was a driven perfectionist and also a coach that was completely flexible and honest. Era of small fast players stops, recruit big fast ones. Passing offense not working, go to wishbone. White players not good enough, recruit black players.
He was a completely original person who knew more about football than anyone alive. He was also a consummate judge of human character, and had the ability to forecast the probility of success of a young assistant coach. In his own words he had the ability to lift some players up, calm others down, until they all moved to the same heartbeat... a team.
And he never made excuses, never blamed his players, never hesitated to sit his best player for violating the rules, see Joe Namith, Ken Stabler, et. al. He did not take a damn "team vote" either.
I recommend you all read his book. Y'all will be completlety entertained and you will finish with renewed appreciation. I was fortunate enough to meet him many times. He was a great man in every sense... the only man other than General Omar Bradley and General William Westmoreland I ever met that made me want to automatically stand at attention.
And a whoever thinks that was a less competitive era doesn't know squat. The teams did not have internet reruiting services and digging top players out was a search. Didn't matter, Coach developed them in the true sense of the word. It is different eras...but do not underestimate how Coach Bryant was in the details like Saban... or like Frank Thomas for that matter.

Saban might be the greatest college football coach of all time but Bryant will always be the greatest Alabama coach ever. Always. Great admiration and appreciation for Saban and all he's accomplished in such a competitive era. But Bryant will never be overshadowed by those of us who remember him stalking those sidelines like a big cool cat.

Bear will always have the longevity. He kept Bama dominant over a 25 year period and showed great adaptability.
Saban has done more in less time and a more difficult time. He'll probably break Bryant's NC count. Along with many records but some he won't because he won't have the time to compile

Pretty much it in a nutshell.
Its late/early so i will ramble for a minute. Don't know if you saw the video on ESPN yesterday (Monday) of Saban playing Pop-A-Shot with a recruit (@ somewhere like a Dave & Busters and someone took a cell phone video) but when I saw that and then thought about Junction Boys, I just thought man, how times have changed.
BTW, they said Saban won the game.

How many BAMA teams that did not win the poll championship would have made a four team playoff? He might have won a couple of more who knows.
