Augustus actually went out of his way to create the illusion that the Republic still existed as it always had. Imperator was a military title at the time. The Romans had a thing for killing kings and dictators so he made sure to put it out there that he was just "First Citizen" or Princeps in Latin (or Prince in today's English).

Of course, he did promote the idea that Julius Caesar and added divi filius to all the coins (son of the divine). So that helped I'm sure.

Can we get that portrait in velvet? It would look great in most of the bammers living rooms between the Elvis and Dogs Playing Poker paintings.

Aw, it must suck to know that most of us have great jobs, families and lives AND we also get to watch our alma mater win championships all the time.

Damn, it burns

I know that there is clinical data regarding the risks of a four erection. I've had this one for seven years and I feel fine. Should I be concerned?

The problem is most of you base your self worth on the success of the football program and ignore those other things you mentioned. That is why there are so many look at me post by the bammers.

Nah, we base it on the other successful things in our lives.

But winning at football a lot is pretty awesome, too.

Why are there so many bitchy posts by Auburn fans? Is it because their lives are empty when their football team sucks?

What I find weird about articles like this, and I've seen several, is that they mirror the SECR mindset. That's fine for the SECR -- this site is built to troll. But actual journalists talking about 11 and 12 win seasons, or, indeed, any season without a national title, as being indisputably a failure is just ridiculous. There are 127 teams in CFB bowl series. Not a single one of them, even Bama, would consider a 12 win season with a visit to the CFP even remotely a bad season. Ranters can get away with implying that because they have other motives than journalistic integrity. But an actual newspaper columnist must realize how silly he sounds in an objective sense.

It has always been said that most bammers have nothing in their lives that they can look down on, so football gives them a chance to have that "awesome" opportunity. This site proves a lot of that, not with just their sidewalk fans.

And yet everyone was doing just that after Alabama's loss to Ohio State in the semi-finals last year. Even Nick Saban had to scoff at all of those people at SEC Media Days. When sitting down for an interview with Finebaum he said, "Here we are, 12-win season, SEC champions, and everyone is asking me what went wrong."

You need to get out of the greater Opelika area more often.

No, not at all actually. You have been the making the same "beat your dog cause da tahd lost" jokes for about a month now. Everybody gets it. It isn't clever, nor does it make sense. Why would somebody beat their dog because their team won a national championship? If we lost your little 9th grade crack might at least make sense. Alas....
