This is an incredible time to be an Alabama graduate. But there were 0ther "dynasties" that may have been just as good or better. One needs some age to understand history I guess. Not everything happened yesterday.

Alabama: 8-years from 1959-1966
75 wins, 8 losses, 5 ties. 4 SEC championships, 3 National Championships and cheated out of one, 1966.

Alabama 11-years: from 1971-1981
117 wins, 15 losses, 1 tie. 9 SEC championships, 3 National Championships and cheated out of one, 1977.

This just further confirms that the only one who can beat Bama, is Bama.

I remember back when people were saying that Saban at Alabama was nothing to be worried about. I laughed then when they said that and I'm laughing now.

Not really Notre Dame with Johnny Lujack was pretty filthy in the 40s

Also Miami 1980s early 90s dominated their opponents for just as long and with just as many if not more large score victories over ranked teams. BTW only time I've cheered for Bama was the 92 NC glad the Tide ended the canes streak!

The same people also said the dynasty is dead, the game has passed Saban by, etc.

There's a lot of wishful thinking that goes into what people say.

Not close at all. Guess how many coaches outwork Saban?

None. That dude does not stop.

Hmmmmmm. Remind me again why Notre Dame was so "dominant" in the 40's.

My memory is a bit fuzzy and history was never my strong suit. But seems like I recall most able-bodied young men being busy doing something else during that period.

And for some reason back then all the black guys only wanted to play at historical black colleges, pretty certain of that. Thank god they came around and decided to lend their talents to some regular ole state schools.

No doubt. Gotta give credit where credit is due:

That Miami decade was sick.
Bowdens 13 year stretch at FSU
USC's microdynasty
Wilkinsons Oklahoma Sooners were insane.
Both of Neylands terms in Knoxville were legendary.

But comparing ND "dominance" over puppet teams of the 40's is laughable.

Well, one of them is still winning them, so watch out Yale.

Or is it Saban to Yale?

I'll give Alabama the nod, but they've got a few asterisks in there. First, they've only had one undefeated season. But, I'm aware that the SEC had a miraculous run and Alabama was always in the mix. Next, I can't overlook a few of their national championship victories...the 2009 Texas game where Colt McCoy is injured after 4 plays, the 2011 "redo" against LSU, and a national championship against a Notre Dame team that was a bigger fraud than Manti Teo's girlfriend. That said, Alabama still won them.

But to say that it's the "not close"....Look again at :

Nebraska 1994-2001

3 National Championships
4 Conference Championships (2 Big 12, 2 Big 8)
3 Big XII North Divisional Champs
1 Heisman Trophy
1 Heisman Finalist
3 Undefeated seasons

Dozens and dozens of major national, overall, positional, and coaching awards.

1994: 13-0
1995: 12-0
1996: 11-2 (You're welcome Gators)
1997: 13-0
1998: 9-4
1999: 12-1 (so sorry Huskers )
2000: 10-2
2001: 11-2

They logged 3 undefeated seasons and lost 11 games in 8 seasons

ETA: It does put a smile on my face knowing that we screwed them in '96 and '99.

This is the greatest run in college football in my lifetime and I'm 49. Saban's attention to detail is like no other.

Alabama has only lost 12 in 8. Bama has also played way, way harder opposition. Count the number of games vs. top 5 teams by both over those 8 years.

Before Saban, the last time they were ranked in the top 5 was 5th in 1994.

I responded by saying they hadn't been ranked in the top 5 since 1994 or even highly with a few exceptions. It's very clear, in the context, this refers to the final polls.
