He fancies himself a Viking, that's probably not a bad thing for an oline coach.

To compare this hire to Enos, Smith, or Bert is retarded.
This is more akin to Seagrest, but without the southern ties.
They play football in the South. A lot. I don't think it's ludicrous for people to be disappointed we, once again, seem intent on hiring someone that has no ties to the areas we most frequently recruit.
No one is saying he is going to suck. Everything doesn't have to be a zero sum game, ya know?

he's shown the constant progression in his career that bert looks for in assistants
seeing his better half tells me he can recruit.
having 5 kids has been rough on the ole gal tho

You guys have completely ruined the meaning of melt.
It's an odd hire when a huge component is recruiting and he's never worked below the Mason Dixon.

you're right. melt may be a little harsh for what most fans experienced after those hires.
upset is probably a more applicable word.

Yeah, and offensive line coach at Arkansas is the natural next step for him and he appears ready. We will likely get him for less than Pittman price and he will give us similar if not better on field results while he grows himself. I would rather have that than pay top dollar for an established elite coach who would not appreciate the job as much and either gouge us every year for more money or leave for another job at any time.

I come at it from both sides.
I have the ultimate trust in Bert when it comes to hiring assistants because his batting average is stellar; however, i really do want to start seeing us hire guys with southern or SEC backgrounds and/or experience because coaching and recruiting in the SEC is a completely different ballgame. The on-field results we get from Anderson may be equal to or better than Pittman, but it's highly debatable that we've been able to replace Pittman's recruiting prowess.
Still though, I'm fine with this hire. Bert has always been good at evaluating potential assistants.

Underwhelming hire but it is just an OL coach.
Rex Ryan kept him which is a good sign because he prides himself on a power running game.
The recruiting angle is a head-scratcher. Recruiting is about relationships and he has none in the south.
He is probably a very good teacher and developer but it is an unknown on recruiting.

Hope he works out! NFL experience doesn't hurt for sure.

For the most part, I agree with this
Enos did well this year just like Smith did last yr. Good talent coached by good coaches turns out well. Our talent on D was lacking this yr and now Smith doesn't look so solid. Hope the shine doesn't come off of the Enos penny next year as we rebuild the O and show talent gaps.
The Seagrest hire still looks a bit lame to me.
Without talent, we are not going to be better than a 9 or 10 win team best case. And I don't see us taking the steps needed to get enough talent on campus.
At the very least, RBs and OLs should be beating down the door to play for us. With a few exceptions, they aren't. So I'm fine with the new OL guy, but I sure wish we'd get at least one recruiting bad-arse on the staff.

frick Bielema, that dude doesn't know shite about hiring an OL coach. I mean, I know he's consistently put OL in the NFL and trotted out some of the best OLs in the country, but he really should've run this hire by us first. No southern ties? god Bielema is a moron. We all know the midwest doesn't produce good O-linemen.
