Per SportsMediaWatch, the Jan. 1 game (which kicked at 1 p.m.) pulled a 5.4 overnight rating on ABC. The rating was roughly 70 percent higher than the 3.7 the game drew last season (Missouri's win over Minnesota).
Overall, the Citrus Bowl came in at No. 3 on New Year's Day. Stanford's blowout win over Iowa in the Rose Bowl posted a 7.9 -- which was actually the lowest rating the Rose Bowl's had since 1999 -- while Ohio State's win over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl (which aired opposite Michigan-Florida) pulled a 6.2.
Ole Miss' win over Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl -- which aired unopposed in primetime -- drew a 5.3
You're right. It beat the Sugar Bowl. Very surprising because I believe the Fiesta (?) was on at the same time.

UT is surprisingly low to be a New Years Day Bowl.

TN's game was on at the same time as OSU vs Notre Dame. Tough to get the unaffiliated when a match up like that is on.

Apparently an 11:00 am kickoff on a Wednesday morning between two shite teams is supposed to garner a lot of excitement.

Early AM kickoff for that one as well.

Yeah, just meant because it was a holiday.

We are apparently a pretty solid draw.

I know I for one do my best tv watching at 11am on a work day. Bosses love me.

because it's the lowest?
Really not rocket surgery here. I'd have said that regardless of who was last place.

Everyone too hungover from the night before to remember the game was on.
