My wife works in a Hospital and occasionally has to work Christmas Day. It sucks when she has to leave at 6:00am. Not as bad now that our kids are older but it did suck before.

I guess it's so warm the fish are still taking feed?

Useless. Not many ducks down. And, with the rain we're getting, water levels will change radically. Just wait for this cold weather around New Years. Then do your scouting.
Also, the highest MS River ever recorded in January will be here in 3 weeks. Steele Bayou gates will be closed. There's gonna be water everywhere.

Our camp is just north of Steele... Sounds like we need to go get our boats out.

Yep. My guess is that MS will close the deer season early in the lower Delta and along the River. Our farm is south of Vicksburg and about 5 miles from the River. When we get high water like this our deer/hog population goes through the roof

It's too muddy to get the feed trucks around but if it was dry we would feed them. Mostly just keeping the predatory birds off the ponds.

Yea I know I was just bored I actually have a few ducks right now I'm gonna go in the morning. I have one hole with about 20 mallards and 50 gadwalls in it

Grey rock on those levees, son. Them babies gotta eat.
I've got a hole with about 20-30 mallards and about 100 woodducks. But I'm using them as live decoys for when some more ducks arrive. I have a VIP in town for New Years. I'm saving them for him.

Water that high in January is not good news for the turkey population

It's financially not feasible to put grey rock or even gravel all around every pond. We gravel the main roads but you have to feed down the long side of the pond to ensure all the fish get the feed.
Oh and I was 1 short of a limit this morning so not too shabby with how crappy the season has gone

Thank you for doing that. We know it's not easy.

My Dad just retired after 43 years with the railroad. Worked many Christmases growing up until he had enough seniority to get off the rotation, but even then would pick up a shift after we celebrated for the holiday pay. I worked a few myself when I worked at a group shelter and we had kids who wouldn't get picked up by family for Christmas. It does suck but you do what you gotta do.

I heard the railroad life is tough.
Wanted to do it growing up but circumstances wouldn't allow it.
