If so, what was it like for you ? Should one train for a year prior to joining the navy and eventually going to bud/s?

I know someone who has gone through. He went to Pensacola for basic and had a chief help him get ready for buds.
If you go make your mind up to go through with it. It ain't easy.

Depends on what type of conditioning you plan on doing. How do you think you are going to get in? Its mostly done by invite so you may not even get he chance to try.

Find a bell in your house and ring it a few times. You're done. I think this is a non-starter for you.

I swam in college... 0% chance I'd finish buds. I hate cold water with an undying passion. Besides that aspect it would've been relatively smooth sailing, from what they tell me.

What the frick did you just fricking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the frick out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fricking words. You think you can get away with saying that shite to me over the Internet? Think again, fricker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fricking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable arse off the face of the continent, you little shite. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fricking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shite fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fricking dead, kiddo.

It's a mind game, stay calm and focused.
Whatever you do, don't ring the bell.

First off, do you have a natural tendency to help others in need? Would you take the initiative to help someone if it put your own life in grave danger? If you don't like that idea, find another career to pursue.

What about your mental endurance for extreme physical stress? How about learning to function in 52 degree sea water after a quick cat nap, when you're body has gotten comfortable and warm. You're so exhausted you can't think straight. Now you're fighting hypothermia, extreme hunger, and dehydration..while the intructor plays mental games with you. Warm bed...hot meal..chicken lo mein, maybe a tasty filet mignon,...how do you like it cooked..blah blah. "What youre doing is nuts man" It'd make your mother cry to see you right now", and so on.

Then there is the water training. What do you think about basically free diving to the bottom of a pool, or sea floor having to concentrate on a task. People have drowned doing these things. Can you control your fear?

If you like those things, find a good, knowledgeable trainer that can help get you prepared. Give it a shot.

Do you have that inside yourself?
I have been both Army, then Marine Corps, nobody that you know can tell you anything. You either believe in yourself, or you don't.

Don't spend your life with a question.GO!!!!!!

Nope, but a close family friend passed and is now an instructor in the BUD/S program. He said it was absolutely nuts. Said they were dropped off for roughly 48 hours to tread water with wake/ got kicked in the nuts with steel toe boots and had to do some sort of crazy torture routine where they play really shitty music for quite a while.

He was a cheerleader at the University of Nebraska. We thought it was kind of ghey when he would show up to our elementary school (his younger sister was in our class) and do backflips and shite. (all while being 6' and weighing 200+)... Turns out he is just one bad arse motherfricker
