Again, Miami's "down" years were a 5-year stretch in which they finished in the Top 20 in 4 out of the 5 seasons. I don't think that was ever bad enough to say the dynasty ended since it picked right back up in 2000 and saw another 4 consecutive years of Top 5 finishes.
During this "down" period (1995-1999), Miami was 13th nationally in weekly AP Poll appearances, so its not like they were irrelevant.
To try to liken Miami's "down" years to Bama's down years between the Stallings years and when Saban rebuilt Bama is a joke.
From 1997-2007, Bama went through an 11-year period that included just three Top 25 finishes... none of them consecutive. It also included four losing seasons.
That's far different than Miami's 5 "down" years which included four Top 20 finishes. Not even close to the same thing.
Checkmate.

That's a pretty good point. I'll roll with it. It was definitely an impressive run.

Must include at least 2 National Titles
I would up this to three for a true Dynasty.

Cannot include consecutive seasons ranked outside the Final AP Top 20
I also think this is too generous. Back to back years outside the top ten marks an end to a Dynasty, IMO.

Then you have USC from about 2003-2007.
I wouldn't call 1 national title a dynasty.
This bama run is very likely going to top anything else any of us see in our lifetimes. Potentially 4 titles in 7 years is just silly.

Given the modern day scholarship limitations and parity in college football ... IMHO this run by Saban/Bama is unparalleled in the history of college football.
IF he wins the national championship this year.

USC had two titles. LSU and USC shared the title in 2003.
Which team was best? Who knows. But USC took home the AP Trophy which has only been the standard since 1936... so it counts.

Especially in modern college football.
When Saban retires the next coach is fricked.
He will never be able to live up to those exceptions. Hell maybe the next 2 after that. Bama fans already have unrealistic expectations to begin with.

It will be interesting to see. The system in place right now with facilities, recruiting, development, fan support, staff is unparalleled. Even other elite programs can't compare. I don't think it can ever be duplicated anywhere. Saban understands how amazing and special the thing is that he's built (which is why he hasn't left after a career as a journeyman). He considers it part of his legacy to keep it maintained after he's gone. I think he's grooming Dabo. Dabo is a goober for sure, but he wins and we know he will pour every ounce of his heart and soul into the job. It's gonna be an exciting time.

How exactly is Saban grooming Dabo when Dabo is a head coach at a different school?
Saban may be waiting for Dabo to fully develop as an elite coach, then will retire with the understanding that Dabo will take over Bama. However, to say Saban is grooming Dabo is absurd.

LSU is the champ in 2003. When the BCS formed, everyone agreed to abide by that system and those rules. The AP was a PART of the BCS WHOLE. It was merely an ingredient. Just like the dunkel index or wtf it is, the massey rating, colley matrix, coaches poll, etc. They were allll just individual bits of the BCS whole. The BCS was designed to put #1 vs #2 in a true national title game. LSU won that game; USC did not. I don't care if people think USC was a champion that year, they weren't. It'd be no different than the coaches poll declaring someone a winner this year that didn't win the playoffs.

And starting in 1998 it didn't count. And it counted even less (as in, didn't count at all) the following year in 2004.

LSU was the National champ in 2003. LSU and LSU alone. AP trophy counts as nothing more than a pat on the back after the '97 season.

Saban also suggested to the LSU brass that Houston Nutt should be his replacement when the former left for Miami. Given that, not sure we should ever trust Saban's opinion on a successor.

Nutt had a few good years at Arky while Saban was there. Saban just didn't realize that LSU is cursed against Arky, and mistook it for Nutt's ability.

What about Nebraska 1969-2001 (33 years)?
339-62-4 (84.2% winning percentage)
33 consecutive top 20 finishes (lowest was 19th)
27 Top 10 finishes.
5 MNCs

So every school signed an agreement that they would only claim final rankings awarded by the Coaches Poll (which agreed to use the BCS CG outcomes at the top)?
The AP never agreed to anything other than that their poll could be used as a portion of the formula. Unlike the coaches poll, they never agreed to match the outcome of the formula.
And no school pledged not to adhere to the AP Poll if it came out differently.
LSU is the 2003 National Champion. Enjoy it. No reason to re-write history in order to try to elbow out USC from legitimately having a share.
