1996: Sophomore transfer Branndon Stewart starts the entire season.
1997: Junior returning starter Branndon Stewart is benched in the middle of the season for poor performance in favor of unheralded sophomore Randy McCown.
1998: Junior returning starter Randy McCown breaks his collarbone scoring a touchdown in the final offensive drive of the 26-24 loss to Texas. Senior Branndon Stewart leads the Aggies to a Big 12 title win over Kansas State.
1999: Senior returning starter Randy McCown sets several A&M offensive records in an otherwise mediocre season.
2000: 24-year old sophomore Mark Farris wins the starting job, setting a few records in the process.
2001: Junior returning starter Mark Farris keeps his job the entire season despite a mediocre season.
2002: Senior returning starter Mark Farris is injured during spring practice taking a sack. The injury hampers his ability to perform as A&M plays four quarterbacks during the UL-Lafayette game. Sophomore Dustin Long replaces Farris in game 2 and retains his starting job until the Oklahoma game (game 10) where true freshman Reggie McNeal leads the Aggies to victory. McNeal gets injured during the following game and Long takes over. Farris never plays again.
2003: Junior Dustin Long and Sophomore Reggie McNeal trade starts over the course of the season, including being subbed for each other during consecutive plays in multiple series in the season-ending loss to Texas. Long leaves for Sam Houston State in the offseason.
2004: Junior Reggie McNeal and true freshman Stephen McGee are the only scholarship quarterbacks remaining on campus. McNeal plays every down with the exception of 2 quarters of the Oklahoma game due to injury. McGee redshirts.
2005: Senior returning starter Reggie McNeal is injured during the Oklahoma game and doesn't play another down. Redshirt Freshman Stephen McGee performs well in a loss to eventual national champion Texas.

2006: Sophomore Stephen McGee leads A&M to a 9-3 regular season record and the first win over Texas since 1999, but also the worst bowl loss in A&M history to Nate Longshore, Marshawn Lynch, Deshawn Jackson, and Cal.
2007: Returning Starter Junior Stephen McGee redshirt freshman Jerrod Johnson, redshirt sophomore Jamie McCoy, and true freshman Ryan Tannehill are the quarterbacks. Tannehill redshirts and McGee keeps his job in Fat Fran's final season.
2008: Returning Starter Senior Stephen McGee never fully recovers from the shoulder injury sustained in the 2007 Nebraska game. In the season opener, 3 quarterbacks and McCoy (who is now at TE) are on the field at the same time. Sophomore Jerrod Johnson takes over for McGee in game 2 and proceeds to break the A&M single season TD pass record. Ryan Tannehill sets a record for most receiving yards in a game.
2009: Returning starter junior Jerrod Johnson keeps his job the entire season with QB/WR sophomore Ryan Tannehill as his backup.
2010: Returning starter Senior Jerrod Johnson doesn't fully recover from his shoulder surgery, as evidenced by his 4 INT performance vs. Florida International. After having his job threatened with a 3-3 record and an embarrassing 30-9 loss to Missouri at home, coach Mike Sherman leaves Johnson in long enough to get the total yardage record vs. Kansas, then puts Tannehill in as the QB. Tannehill is the only one to take snaps at QB over the next 7 games, compiling a 6-1 record and A&M's first postseason ranking since 1999.
2011: Returning starter Senior Ryan Tannehill and Redshirt Freshman Jameill Showers are the starter and backup respectively in Mike Sherman's final season. Tannehill is drafted 8th by the Miami Dolphins in the 2012 draft.
2012: Redshirt Freshman Johnny Manziel beats out Redshirt Sophomores Matt Joeckel and Jameill Showers and true Freshman Matt Davis for the starting job. Manziel becomes the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy. Jameill Showers graduates and transfers to UTEP.
2013: Returning Starter sophomore Johnny Manziel is suspended for the first half of the Rice game due to questionable association with an autograph merchant (and Darrell Rovell being an uberdouche). Matt Joeckel graduates and transfers to TCU and Matt Davis transfers to SMU following a semester at Tyler JC.
2014: True Freshman Kyle Allen is beaten out by Sophomore Kenny Hill for the starting QB job. Hill sets an A&M single game passing record in a 52-28 win over South Carolina and compiles a 5-0 record before falling apart against Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and a 59-0 loss to Alabama. After word gets out that he has a drinking problem and he is suspended 2 games, Kyle Allen becomes the starter leading A&M to a 3-2 record. Hill transfers to TCU.

I had forgotten all about Long. Hated being reminded of Stewart. Given his HS pedigree and the fact he battled Manning to be the starter, I sure expected a lot more from him.
Once minor correction ... Davis transferred to Tyler JC before going to SMU

I've been exposed to a lot of disappointment the last 15 years. I guess it's somewhat comforting to know that plenty of people have been putting up with it a lot longer.

After Bucky, it was 22 years before an Aggy QB had the ability to lead the team with any level of competency.

Wait what? We had a really good offense back when Pullig was QB. The Rodney Thomas/Greg Hill/Leeland McElroy RB combos were legit. We would ball control you to death back then.

Our defense was the key to all those teams in my opinion. But what really screwed us over is when we got one-dimentional and couldn't effectively pass the ball.
