You have good WRs and Dobbs is no Treon.
That is another reason UT went run-heavy. They were often down to 4 or 5 healthy receivers total this season. Pig Howard was dismissed, Croom was recovering from knee surgery and missed the whole season and North has only played in a few games (and was limited by injury in them). Inconsistent QB accuracy and thin WR corps really hurt the staff's confidence in the passing game.

Preston Williams and Jennings spent a lot of time on the injured list as well. Preston was the really disappointing one.
He was really coming into his own early in the season.

Our WRs have actually tended to be one of our more underwhelming positions lately. Not saying they're bad or anything, but they can disappear at times. We may as well have just called the wide receivers wide blockers against UF this year, IIRC they caught 2 passes the whole game. That was partially due to our running success, but being one dimensional the whole game with 2 or 3 gadget plays thrown in usually won't cut it against higher level SEC competition. Oddly, our offense did more than enough to win anyway, it was late defensive breakdowns and questionable coaching decisions (inexplicably not going for 2 was for from the only one) that cost us the game. And I like Butch.
On a different note, what does UF want to do with their offense? From what I've seen it looks like Mac wants to run his own variation of the spread, correct me if I'm wrong. I know they've been leaning on the ground game a lot more recently, but I feel like that's likely due to Treon's limitations. (And I know he fricking being us in Knoxville ) Would I be correct in that assessment? UF seems to have found a stud at WR in Callaway. Do they want to establish themselves as a run first team or a pass first team?

Our offense almost entirely dependent on our talent. If Dobbs isn't healthy enough to do damage with his legs, pretty much all we've done is throw screens or hand it off and bank on guys making great individual plays.

Seemed like he got hurt just as he was beginning to catch his stride, and he never really got it back after he came back. He's still young and has a lot of time to develop. He seems like he'll be a really good one when it's all said and done. But seriously... we haven't had a healthy WR corps in 3 YEARS, and that's not an exaggeration.

Yes you were too conservative against us at the end of the game. But who is calling the plays at that point? Also why the heck wasn't Dobbs throwing the ball this summer?
He had an internship at one of your big Florida airplane design firms.

Seems like he wants to run a pro style offense with more of a drop back passer. I think he wants to do a little West coast stuff too though because we have a lot of plays where the ball is out quickly....or at least supposed to be. I'm sure he still likes a somewhat mobile QB (doesn't everyone) if for nothing more than avoiding the rush a little to buy time or maybe an occasional bootleg for a change of pace.
I think he would like to be darned near 50/50 run pass.

I like winning more than I have an affinity for a particular style of offense. If Butch doesn't win the East next year, I will be frustrated. The biggest offensive problem is Dobbs' accuracy issues. Coaching should improve that.
I do admit that I thought the pro-style offense of the Fulmer days allowed UT to recruit at a different level. Of course, game is changing with guys like Cam.

Seems like Grier is the clear best choice for your system, although I'm unsure of his running capability. Although I know Mac comes from the Saban tree, it appears to me that his philosophy is a bit more pass-oriented than Saban's. Maybe it's kind of similar to what Bama does now with Kiffin at OC.

I think Tennessee puts up a valiant effort but they won't be able to stop the running of Thorson, Jackson and Vitale. It'll be close though. Vols- you got something to be proud of.

Who? And it will be Iowa part 2, don't fool yourself.
Posted on 12/9/15 at 8:16 pm to rockytop627
Iowa part 2. Oh the Iowa that is playing in a much better bowl than you? I guess you can't pull the Bama card. You hammered Iowa yet they finished this season 11-1. Go figure.

Then Yall should be 15-0 next year with how bad you're gomma get crushed.

Don't be mad. Be better than that. Jus, just...

Again, Vols. I think Botch has turned the corner, but your offense comes up a little short. Nothing to hang your heads about. 8 wins is solid. Next year is your year.

Judging by the fact you're calling him Botch, you obviously don't think much of him. How bout since you're so confident we'll lose, change your team logo to UT for the offseason if we win. If we lose, I'll change mine to Northwestern. Deal?

Well, who's Kamara and Tennessee's WRs? I've heard of the Alien and Jalen Hurd. But outside of those players I have no idea who they got. They better bring the anger that they had against Vandy and Kentucky. If not, you'll get beat. Northwestern sucks at throwing the ball because they don't have to do it very often. They got rolled by Iowa and Michigan, but they rebounded and won their last five. I'm trying to pump the brakes on Tennessee fans overreacting that this will be an easy win. Fluke teams don't go 10-2 for no reason. If your coaching staff reacts like you guys on the rant, you won't win.

Gonna take me up or be a pussy? Also IIRC, NW's offense ranks around 110th nationally. They don't pass for much because they suck at passing. Their RB Jackson is their only significant offensive threat. They average 20 ppg, we average around 32.
