Wonder if he'll stay through the bowl game(s)?

Hey Dawg
I was reading some posts by some of your boys. They were discussing how Bama has out spent UGA on football operations by something like 4:1 over the last few years......that this UGA admin. just doesn't have anywhere near the commitment to winning like Bama does and that Smart is walking into a total shite storm working for this admin.....that Richt really outperformed by winning 9-10 games a year....UGA mkes a lot of $$$ but they just don't care that much about the product on the field...
Any insight on that?

I assume he would. OSU's OC Herman did last season before going on to Houston. Hope he does stay through the bowls.

He got the job he wanted most. Congrats to him and I hope he wins the East next year.

How will this affect the incoming defensive recruits? Hope they aren't persuaded to go elsewhere.

Well if Pruitt comes back he may bring some recruits over

The difference, however, is that Houston's immediate success doesn't depend on one recruiting class the way that UGA's does. Eason needs to be locked up ASAP before he goes elsewhere.

Yeah, a program like UGA probably can't wait around for a coach through potentially mid January.

Isn't not having him for our bowl game(s) a huge problem?
I mean, he's constantly making a ton of signals and is a very, very active defensive coordinator.
There's no way somebody can take over doing that effectively in a few weeks.

I'm sure losing Cochran and potentially Napier will hurt too.
Saban is just gonna have to step in and have a larger role. Someone else will likely handle the calls and signals, but Saban will be feeding them everything. It's one of those things that just has to be dealt with if/when it happens.
Biggest difference with Herman was, Houston could wait. Him winning a NC just made him all the more valuable to them. UGA doesn't need that...

Cochran is reportedly gone with him. That is a huge blow

I'm sure Saban was prepared for this.

Where is it being reported that Cochran is leaving?

Why wouldn't he be here to finish the season?
If he leaves before the season is over, I'll be the first to say - frick you Kirby.
But I seriously don't think that's going to happen and can't see him as being that type of coach/person.

Kirby Smart to UGA
quote:
Scott Cochran, Alabama's director of strength and conditioning, is expected to join Smart in Athens, according to a source. Cochran has been at Alabama since 2007 and has been an integral part of Saban's staff.
quote:
Smart is not expected to officially accept the position until after Alabama plays Florida in the SEC Championship this Saturday at the Georgia Dome. Smart, 39, is a former Georgia football player and has long been interested in coaching the Bulldogs. He'll replace Mark Richt who spent 15 seasons at Georgia before being dismissed on Sunday.
It is not yet known if Smart would continue coaching at Alabama if the Crimson Tide wins Saturday and makes the College Football Playoff. There's a precedent for doing it as former Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain coached Alabama in the 2012 national championship after accepting the Colorado State job. Saban lauded McElwain's decision and said it "spoke to his character and his professionalism."

I don't get why Cochran would leave. Are he and Kirby close or something? In an interview, he said he came to UA because of Saban, who he called the godfather.
