@GabeDeArmond: #Mizzou AD Mack Rhoades will address media about coach search on Wednesday. My early guess at announcement is week after end of reg season
Not sure what this entails. Just wanted to pass along.

I think Mack will give us the "home run" hire some in the fanbase are looking for. Although we have had a rough week or so I believe Missouri is in the top 3 jobs available currently outside of USC (Blue Blood enough said) and Virginia Tech (strong recruiting footprint due to the Hampton Roads area and way better facilities than us).
Outside of the campus situation we have so many attractive reasons to consider Mizzou:
1. A freshman QB to build the offense around
2. Young defensive personnel that can compete with any offense in the country
3. Committed AD who understands the value of having a good product on the field which means he will fight to keep up in the arms race
4. A fanbase that is rabid, yes, but one that is also patient and understands 7 wins are acceptable in off years. You can become a great figure here that brings conference championships and national championships to good ole Mizzou
5. Regional brand name in firtile recruiting areas
Some are worried that only a black coach is the answer due to events of the past week. I strongly disagree with this thought process. I think Rhoades will hire the best candidate available. I do think we may see a couple more black position coaches and that may actually be more for recruiting.

So let it be written. So let it be done.

I think someone from Pinkel's staff takes over. He's such a loyal guy there's no way he's going to let all of his coaches get kicked to the curb. I think Odom gets the shot.

Like it or not, SCe is at least on par. Closer to recruiting hotbeds and a headstart

I think usce is slightly below us. we have a bigger recruiting footprint we can recruit from in states that don't have SEC teams to compete with. Oklahoma, kansas, iowa and illinois. usce has to directly compete against clemson in state and its hard for them to go into ga. they do ok in NC but with the tarheels in the top 25 thats another team nearby to fight for recruits.
I dont know if i give it to virginia tech above us either. we are SEC. period.
I think we get herman and fuentes goes to the trojans.
thank god uga won yesterday. i like richt just where he is.
with an offensive minded head coach and an already established young defense like we have, the right person could have us in the top 4 in two years.

I hear you reedus. I think the stockpile of game ready talent/high character players is the only reason we would be ahead at this point.
You are right though. Location is better and facilities are better at this point but they have a longer rebuild than we do. So while a coach may be transitioning into their system/players what is readily available here at mizzou can help win 9+ games over the next year or 2.

Unknown hack takes a shot at who the candidates might be.

Right. No way we hire any of those.

I would love Christenson to be the OC again. The Ga. Southern coach is very intriguing. Very successful at lower levels. Maybe he can be successful in the biggest show in town. Just needs the chance.

Anyone know what Rhoades said after Pinkel's speech?

If I had to bet, I would say either the Memphis coach or Barry Odom. I think Odom might be who we go with, our fan base loves Missouri guys and he's been successful as a coordinator and recruiter at Memphis and now here, he'd make the most sense.

I remember Mizzou hired a "Missouri guy" back in the 80's. Super Bowl rings and all. Lots of PR about a frickin' Wagon. How did that "Mizzou connection" turnout?
It was the beginning of the dark and bleak "Bab Years".
I lean toward hiring an experienced HC and not an assistant. Mizzou is not a blue-blood program, but it's not a "HC in training" program either. Assistants come with a little more risk regardless of in-house assistant (Odom) or not. Nothing is risk free. Risk free is folding the program.

I hear ya 808. But Gene Chizik is a "maybe" in my book.
He won a Natty in the SEC no less. You don't get the chance to hire a Natty winner often. Should help with recruiting some.
Yes, I laughed at Aubbie when they hired him out of IA State. At least he didn't get in the bag man's way to get Cam Newton or the OC's way to coach him. He's got a heavy Florida and Texas background. ACC, SEC and B12. Yes, he specializes in D.

No, just no.
We aren't going to cheat at the level Chizik requires to be successful. We don't have the bag men.
We have to get an actual good coach.

Would not support this move, Fuentes is my best guess

Cam Newton won a natty and his family was paid hundreds of thousands for it.

I believe that Odom will NOT be the Mizzou Head Coach and will leave for another head coaching position. I think Rhoades hires from outside Mizzou with an offensive coach like Tom Herman. Coach Kul moves up to DC and we keep a couple of other Mizzou coaches.
