Would everyone be cool with three Tennessee schools - two in East, TN? I have a feeling things might get testy over that.

For instance, what happened in 1962 when Bama was ranked #1 late in the season and going for a repeat?

Dodd was a better coach than Bryant could ever imagine to be.

He just wouldn't do the things Bryant would do to win.

Nope, Sewanee and Tulane are out forever.

But GT makes sense for the SEC.

Well, considering that Bryant was 6-1 against Dodd and GT from 1958 to 1964...I stand by my statement.

Bryant was Dodds Daddy

Now that I think about it... Tech might actually be a good fit for the SEC. Atlanta is a huge market (which is already UGA dominated) but our Basketball (men's and women's) could be very competitive, baseball and softball would be competitive, our volleyball is always competitive, soccer is very competitive.. we have the best sports dorms in the country (remember we hosted the Olympics in 96 and the sports dorms now were the Olympic Village.

Metro Atlanta TV Market for the SEC Network.

My post above was a rant because we lost to VA Tech but now that I have lost my cool about losing, it kind of makes sense. We don;t have the big 18 million capacity stadium as the other SEC Schools have for football but all of other facilities are top notch (Baseball and Basketball)

I am actually now for this....

First.. we are in Alabama's fight song

Send the Yellow Jackets to a watery grave

Kick MIZZOU out because they are an embarrassment to the world and bring us in. We have always had traditional Uniforms and the GT symbol logo is one of the most recognized in all of sports.

We have a great mascot

We have one of the most traditional fight songs in all of College Football

We would be the BIGGEST SEC city on the conference

We would only have to walk across the street each year to win the SEC Championship.

I think it is actually an awesome fit. Accept GA Tech SEC Gods!

Having said this.. I love our tradition 3rd Quarter Budweiser Song - It's on the scale of Rammer Jammer

I was at a Bama supper/meeting once and wandered upon two old timers talking football. Specifically a Ga Tech game from the early 1960's. It went something like...

"Remember that play in the third quarter where we ran that sweep around the right end?"

"Yeah, the QB should have just kept the ball, if he would have cut back inside there was a huge hole and he probably could have run for 30."

"No way, they had a safety coming up in run support and that guy was fast. We might not have even gotten a first down at all."

"You're crazy, that guy was a poor tackler."

"No way Dodd would have let a poor tackler on the field, the safety was solid."

"DODD??? Don't even say that sumbitch's name around me."

I'm thinking... they are discussing individual plays from a game played 45 years ago with no real implications other than it was just Bama football. Now I love my university and I am a big fan, but... jeez. Some people need to just get a life.

Edit: Maybe I'm missing something entirely on the pizza comment. But if you're ever up this way I'll buy you a slice. And a coke.

I actually pull for GT but out of the game tonight, VT would make more sense than GT to bring into the sec

If we're gonna add back a charter member, it should be Tulane so maybe Auburn can finally get above .500 against them.

GA Tech was the team Rudy played at Notre Dame... Tech used to be a traditional household name back then. Tech has lost their edge over the years but they have the tradition to bring it back.

Tech is always going to be one of the best Colleges in America. The campus is amazing. Downtown ATL is amazing. If they were to one day get accepted to the SEC... their entire athletic department would get a jolt in the arm with exposure (for recruiting in all sports) - Student/Athletes living in DOWNTOWN ATLANTA in Olympic dorms?? The sky would be the limit for Tech for recruiting and world wide brand recognition. The applications would triple (Just like Bama) and Tech Admins would have a huge amount of applications to sift thru by keeping their standard in enrollment.

The GT/UGA game would become the Iron Bowl Rivalry of the east.

TECH would never have to play a Thursday night game again with all of those empty seats in the stadium. Tech would become a household TV prime time game.

GA Tech would dominate other sports in the SEC. Especially Basketball and Baseball. GA Tech would be the most awesome addition to the most awesome Conference in all of College Sports

Ok....I will wade into this. I was 15 in 1962 and remember the Ga Tech-Bama hatred like yesterday...very bad blood between them.

Bama played dirty and broke the rules...Vandy got pizzed when they ran the "sleeper" play where the WR for Bama would head for the sidelines and be right on the edge of the chaulk and would be talking to asst coaches...until ball was snapped and then he'd be 25 yds downfield. Ga Tech had player with broken jaw after a Bama player struck him etc etc

I dont have feelings for either school. But Tech dropped out and to anyone thinking how grand it would be to Ga Tech in the SEC...an academic school right off 1-75 on North Street. All I have to say is that visitors better pack heat in the area of downtown. The only redeeming social factor would be the Varsity restaurant close by the stadium and great onion rings.

Dodd and Vaught got into it also. Dodd refused to play Ole Miss in Mississippi and was refusing to play Alabama in Alabama! Dodd wanted Alabama and Ole Miss to play them in Atlanta every Year! Tuscaloosa and Oxford were beneath that prima Dona - screw him.

I loathe Dodd, no hero to me.

Are you fricking kidding me? I can't count the number of students I've talked to who transferred out of Tech because of the crime in that area.

I'd rather have Ohio State in the conference than USJW.
