Why didn't Fulmer ever coach again?

It has been 7 years since Philip Fulmer stepped down at Tennessee. He's 65 years old and, I assume, done.
But why could he not have gotten another job after leaving UT? The man was 100 games over .500 as a head coach.
For Christ sake, Gerry DiNardo was hired to coach in the Big 10. A guy with a national championship and a couple of SEC titles couldn't get another job?

Tenn was his dream job. Dude is relaxing and being a fan.

He was at a destination program and was fired at a point he had enough money to retire and had accomplished most goals... He could have coached elsewhere, but would never have been at a top tier program again...

He really didn't want another job, besides, he was paid a shitload of buyout money, if he had gotten another head coaching job, he would have had to give it up.

Too many elk to kill and fish to catch. Not to mention being able to sit at home on Saturdays and laugh like hell at UT for firing him.

He had his network of bag men like AIDS victim Roy Adams in Memphis established and was too old, too fat, and too lazy to build another one.

He had an appearance on a radio show not too long ago where he said:
"I have no hard feelings for the UT athletic department, because everyone who fired me, got fired".

You didn't even know who Roy Adams was until someone on this board brought him up. Quit pretending that you gave a shite about Alabama football before 2009.

He was a Tennesseean born and raised. Played and coached at Tennessee for 35 years. Tennessee was always his final job. He was fired at age 58 and moved on with his life to be with his grand kids and the millions of dollars in his bank account. Can't blame him.

He actually contacted Barnhart inquiring about the UK job when Joker was fired.

UK did the right thing by not entertaining the idea.

This. He was noted as being moderately interested in quite a few jobs in the SEC but he wasn't invested in any of them. He had been to the mountain top so to speak and now he was ready to settle into a long retirement.
Could he have gone on to coach quite a few programs in the SEC that would have thrived with him as head coach? Yes.
But I think when he was let go from his dream job with the Vols he decided to just hang it up. He stuck his toes in the water but he never was really interested in anything.

"The UT athletic department"?
Why not just "Tennessee" ?
Why not just "Tennessee" ?

Because he is still angry that the average hill person buttchugger told him to frick off.

He was interested some jobs but the feeling was not mutual.
