You can't really hold that against him. Hell, you probably hear that 8 to 10 times a day.

This isn't mysterious at all.

UT is his alma mater and dream job and he went 152–52 there and won a natty. He climbed to the mountain top at the school he played for and was/is a millionaire.

At that point, what else is there to want?

Dude was in his 60s before his buyout stopped paying and --- I don't know how many successful men in your 60s you know, but I know a few and typically, if they've already peaked in their career at that point and have grandkids, the fire is just out and even though they know so much and have so much experience they can perform at a high level automatically, they have no passion and just want to relax at their place in the country and play with their grandkids. That's life.

I also remember he rushed back after his illness because the knife was really hurting his back while Phil was twisting it.

Phil was pretty much blackballed from coaching for being a cowardly back stabber. He was known for doing things in the shadows and not being man enough to be direct.

If he's so well liked maybe UTk brings him back to coach when Lyle gets told to frick off.

There's some truth to it. But like most stories, what really happened is often embellished by people with an axe to grind. :cough: Scrooster/Bama fans :cough:

At the time, Majors was a mean drunk that treated the players and coaches like shite. The players were ready to quit if Majors had remained the coach.

Fulmer obviously lobbied for the position when Majors had his heart attack. But he didn't "stab him in the back".

Fun fact : Majors was stopped for DUI 2 weeks before his Heart Attack. Part of the story you never hear.

Thanks. Hadn't heard all of that...when rumors start flyin' the whole story rarely comes out at the time...

Yeah, going to the UTk AD and bad mouthing Majors while begging for the job is by definition stabbing your boss in the back. Majors hired Fulmer for Christd sake.

But "lobbying" for the job while the man that hired you is in the hospital after a heart attack and heart surgery is not considered stabbing someone in the back in buttchugger land.

Cause he's a scumbag that nailed Majors in the back, took law into his own hands in a rape case and made a deal with the NCAA in regards to Memphis goings on. The only people that don't "know" this are blinded UT fans. Nobody wants this slime. Any team at any level. Even UT administrators were looking for any reason to shite can this guy. He got his in spades and his University is still suffering from his BS and the way people didn't trust him in latter years. He single handedly tore down what coaches before him had built with his win at all costs attitude.

Good points about Phil being a backstabbing POS.
