They have a cycle that is as consistent as LSU's 4 year cycle starting in 2006. It goes

Great year
OK year
shite the bed year
(Recovery year, if necessary)

2006 - Great year, would have been SECW champs if not for Arkansas' once-a-quarter-century year.
2007 - OK year, Iron Bowl win (6 in a row)
2008 - shite the bed, Iron Bowl blowout, coach "resigned"
2009 - Recovery Year, new coach

2010 - National championship
2011 - OK year, lost iron bowl but it was a GOAT Bama team
2012 - shite the bed, Iron Bowl blowout, coach fired

2013 - Worst to first, Kick six
2014 - OK year, lost iron bowl in shootout
2015 - ???

2015 is following the pattern so far. The only question at this point is if Malzahn breaks the coaching pattern and if the Iron Bowl breaks the pattern.

Preseason hype. Picked to win west by a ton of media outlets.

If we don't win another game this year, Malzahn still doesn't get fired. We will give him time to get it together, hopefully.

They were picked to win the West and have a Heisman candidate QB.

What actually happened? Their heisman QB was benched 3 games in and Auburn is facing a 1-7 SEC record this year.

AU got too much preseason love but nobody would've guessed our QB situation was going to be THAT bad if they'd watched JJ play last year.

That and key injuries have cost them. They're getting better and I wouldn't be surprised to see them win against any SEC team... But It wouldn't surprise me to see them get stomped either.

It's just one of those years.

Because Auburn fans were saying 2015 would be their next great year, using similar logic, and apparently many in the media took their word for it.

I don't think AU is as bad as most posters here think.

They've got a solid QB now and the offense really seemed to start clicking against Arkansas. I think most here probably think Arkansas is bad as well, but both AU and Ark have improved over the course of the season.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see both Arkansas and Auburn finish above State and aTm in the final West standings.

They went from heisman qb and #4 (I think) pre-season ranking to benched qb garbage and very real potential for bowl ineligibility.

They might be the only team to have fallen further than us.

Well, other than pig.

Because they have the talent to win the championship... Way too talented to be mediocre... Hell they aren't even mediocre at this point..

Media guzzled the koolaid instead of realizing that Auburn had very little experience returning at QB and their best receiver had discipline issues.

Why? Seriously?

How the hell do Auburn fans put up with the roller coaster they have? It would drive me nuts to not be competitive year in and year out. To say AU was ok last year is just dumb. They weren't in the last part - they sucked. To have a year like this year (hell, even last year) would drive me nuts.

You guys need to stop making excuses for shitty coaching.
