What exactly has put Bama back in such high esteem...?

... following the Ole Miss loss?

I've heard at least 4 radio hosts or talking heads today place Bama in the "Playoff 4."

Now ... as a purist, I've always been one that liked the notion that every single week of the CFB season counts and matters. It is, in itself, a weekly playoff.

Since the Ole Miss loss ... what do we have?

- Crushing defeat of UGa ... who then proceeded to lose to Tenn and score only 9 for the W vs. hapless Mizzou.

- 2 TD win vs. now 3-4 Arky ... who survived Barn in 4 OTs.

- Crushed Aggy ... who then scored 3 vs. Black Bear.

- Survived now 3-4 Tenn.

I guess it's as if letting Black Bear drop 43 on you ... simply doesn't matter.

It's like it never happened.

Maybe it's because we've finished 4 straight regular seasons, and 6 of the last 7, with only one loss or fewer. Maybe it's because Saban and Bama have earned a reputation of knowing how to peak and win tough games.

Or maybe it's a super evil media conspiracy that came out of nowhere in 2008 to benefit Bama for no particular reason

that sounds logical to me. i have no dog in the lsu/bama war and i really don't care who wins this season at all but if forced at gunpoint i'd choose bama simply because of saban.

Entering Week 5, Alabama was at #12...

#3 Ole Miss loses to Florida
#6 Notre Dame loses to Clemson
#7 UCLA loses to Arizona St.
#8 Georgia is beaten by.... Alabama

In Week 6,
#8 Florida loses to LSU
#9 Texas A&M is beaten by.... Alabama

They deserve to be where they are just as much as LSU does to be #4. They really can't control teams ahead of them losing.

Because they have a solid chance (better than any SECW team outside of LSU) of winning every game this year and OM will probably lose one more game (to LSU) which would send Bama to SECCG. Winning the SEC would give them a pretty good shot at making the playoffs. Certainly not guaranteed that all of this happens but Bama still has a pretty good chance of making the playoffs.

Man I wish LSU played Tennessee. LSU would probably win, but that team has size and speed. The game would be close.

That's not really relevant, but I agree some people probably think that way.

Stop here and I agree. Saban's rep does earn Bama a lot of points other teams might not benefit from. Not a ridiculous notion until

Bama has had poor showings on the biggest stages (post season) the last couple of years. Would 3 years in a row indicate a trend? Not saying yes, or if it will even happen, but at some point, postseason play has to be remembered as much as anything else.

Maybe it's just to get people like you to respond or post about it on a msg board somewhere.

Crushing teams and breaking their spirit is what Bama does. A&M's loss to the Bears and Georgia's major decline and loss the Tn are the result of the Bama beat down.

Your so full of shite, ESPN radio hosts today stated Bama wasn't playing like a top ten team, should be 11, obviously they didn't get Saban's memo about his weak-legged players from an 8 week schedule.

I think I see a pattern here. R -Kansas you can thank us later for helping ya'll beat LSU's arse.

The loss of Chubb likely has zero to do with that. If LF7 went down with injury in the 1st qtr of the Bama game do you think your chances for victory go down considerably? Same was true for UGA.

quote:

2 TD win vs. now 3-4 Arky ... who survived Barn in 4 OTs.

transitive property is fun, but doesn't always apply in football. LSU has a 10 point win at Syracuse who lost to 2-5 Virginia in OT and got beat by USF by 21 (USF better than LSU now?)
Also, holla back after you play Arky this year. They DID beat you 17-0 last year, baw.

quote:

Crushed Aggy ... who then scored 3 vs. Black Bear

Highly unlikely that Freeze and his staff used anything seen in the Bama game film that helped them attack that TAMU O. Also, road vs home. apples vs oranges, etc. Again, transitive property and all

quote:

Survived now 3-4 Tenn

Who lost to UF, Oklahoma, and Bama by a combined 13 points. Their 4 losses come by a combined 17 points (or, the exact amount Arky beat LSU by in one game last year)

Preseason polls are a thing. Has anything drastic changed at Alabama? There's no major reason to overrule what has been a constant every year

Not really. We've won more big games (ie over top ten teams) than anyone else in the country during this run by like double. Those few losses are rare exceptions and become super memorable because they are so rare.

No shite, right? Propping up a team that Bama has beaten ... what is it now? ... 9 in a row?

No wonder they want to keep that big rivalry.

Oh, you mean the same guy who put Alabama in his top 10?

THAT is the guy you want to use as a reference in this debate?

You go for it son.

Does the conference championship count as post season? 2012 Bama won the SEC and the BCSNC, 2013 finished 11-2, 2014 Bama won the SEC, made it to the playoff and finished 13-2.

Somehow as a Bama fan/alum, I don't mind that trend.

LSU would probably win by 2 TD's.

UT is a rivalry for Bama and they played over their heads, wouldn't be the same for playing LSU.

I get what the OP is saying, Bama lost but seems to reap no consequence for it. However, I do believe that Bama is deserving of where they are ranked. In all honesty, LSU and Bama could (once again) beat probably any other team in the nation. This year is weird, nobody is really dominating. OIf the few teams that have the big blow-out wins, look at the schedule they've played.

Stay calm, we will know much more after Nov. 7.
