Mizzou offensive SEC rankings:
Points/Gm - 14
Rush Yds/Carry - 14
Pass Yds/Attempt - 14
Yards/Play - 14
TFL Allowed - 13
Sacks Allowed - 13
Very offensive. Will they stay the same or go up?
Mizzou defensive SEC rankings:
12.9 Points/Gm - 1
2.8 Rush Yds/Carry- 2
5.7 Pass Yds/Attempt - 2
4.0 Yards/Play - 1
56 TFL - 1
19 Sacks - 5
Never in a million years would I have guessed this. I try to remind myself that my Mizzou hopes are placed upon 18 to 20 y/o young men. That reminds me of my immature self when I played ball with Abe Lincoln.

Jeezus! If we'd seen those rankings for offense back in August, we've have never believed it. (Or I wouldn't have, I should say)
A down year is one thing...fricking last?????

Mizzou offense isn't just last in the SEC. Mizzou is actually 4th to last in Division 1-A football in scoring offense(124/127). We are dead last in scoring offense out of all the power 5 schools.
LINK
In other words Mizzou's offense is shockingly bad. It's like nobody coached these kids up during the off season bad. Like nobody knows what the frick they're doing out there. No game plan. No passion.
AJ Ricker failed to coach the O-line up... clearly. 5 senior starters and they don't have a clue at what to do or how to block outside Boehm. Josh Henson being promoted to be OC was an epic failure mistake. He clearly has no idea what he's doing and is in way over his head. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out when your offense is putting up numbers like this it's 100% on the coaches. Absolutely no excuse. This is just shameful and embarrassing. I just feel bad for the defense having to put up with this shite show.
Garry Pinkel can't do this promoting with in crap anymore. This is the SEC, a conference known for defense, A conference known for having some of the best front sevens in the nation year in and year out. You have to go out and hire someone new. Someone with experience as an OC and proven results at another school. Basically proving that they know how to run an offense. I mean come on man hire the OC at Bowling Green or even Memphis. We can afford those guys and they have proven they can get it done with lesser talent.
Bottom line...we can't go another season with these two clowns on the staff. I know I sound like a broken record but Henson and Ricker have to go period.

Henson's first offense set records for yardage and was one of the best ever at Mizzou.
Did he really get dumber between then and now?
Last years OLine started out struggling, but ended the year the strength of the offense. Is Ricker a worse coach this year.
Both coaches can do better, but some of that is also on the players.
There were some big misses in the 2011 & 2012 recruiting classes. Mizzou has 1 upperclassman at receiver. 1 at RB. That hasn't been the pattern of a GP offense.
Mizzou has 1 good defense left to play, Vandy. The rest all fall outside of the top 50, so I expect the offense to improve after the bye week. It won't be good this year, but it can be good enough to not be terrible.

Henson first offense at Mizzou was with David Yost's coached players and senior veterans. Henry Josey, most of our wide outs +DGB before he got kicked off the team, and James Franklin. All Seniors minus DGB of course. After all that senior leadership, which once again all coached by Yost left and DGB got kicked off the team what happened? The offense took a nose dive. The offense wasn't very good in 2014. Defense carried us to Atlanta last year. This year it's even worse. Why? because Henson doesn't know how to develop these guys or an offense of his own.
I don't care what kind of offense he may have had in a previous year. When you are 4th to last in Division 1-A football in scoring offense it's inexcusable on every level. This is the worst offense GP has ever had. The last time Mizzou was averaging numbers like this was 1971. That team finished the season 1-10 and we could easily be a 1 win team this year if it wasn't for our defense being as good as they are.

So is it Henson or is it the players? Right now there is 1 skill position player that has really played prior to this year. Hansbrough.
Before the season the narrative was that Mizzou had 2 guys on offense that couldn't get hurt. They got hurt on the second & third play of the season.
The receivers are too green this year.
Part of the answer is that the coaches need to do better, the other part is that players are winning one on one battles.

Who do you think is in charge of developing these players? Talent is not the issue because why is Bowling Green putting up the numbers they are? Experience? We have 5 senior starters on our O-Line and they have collapsed almost every play in the last two games. As shown above Mizzou's offensive line is 2nd to last in the SEC in giving up TFL and Sacks.

That's major selective memory on Yost. When he left everyone was calling for his ouster.
How many of Mizzou's OLine starters would start for other SEC schools. Only 2.
Obviously the coaches can do better, but there are some limits on the talent of the players they have. Look at some of the misses. The tackle that switched from Mizzou to A&M, who is likely to be a first round pick in this draft. That would fix the line. Play him, Boehm, & and McGovern next to each other and they would be big lanes to run behind.

Sorry we are playing big boy football now and this offense is indefensible. No excuses when you rank what 124 out of 126 in D-I offense. That kind of performance costs people jobs and it should in this case too unless fixed fast. I hold out hope that moving the OL around may help but if not Ricker and Henson should go. Sure we missed on players BUT Mizzou is a Power 5 school, teams like Memphis & Bowling Green can put up points no excuses why this team cannot.

I just don't think Mizzou has the players to be a good offense.
I do think the coaches can do better. Put linemen at their natural positions. Give Lock time in the pocket and his passing skills are obvious.

The problem is they want to play Witter who gets tackled by the wind. Without Hansbrough, who has been a shell of himself all season, we are stuck with a terrible ground game since the coaches won't play anyone but Witter.
There are personnel decisions that have been awful this season and continue to be. Using Witter on the goal line is inexcusable.

Ricker came in with his new blocking scheme and after the first few games last year he scrapped it and went back to what we were doing under Walker. He said he didn't have time to implement it properly and the players were more comfortable the old way - and the line got better after that.
He spent this past off season implementing his new blocking scheme. And it is still not working.
I put all of the blame for the offensive line problems squarely on Ricker for using a system that is either too complex to be run effectively, or too inadequate to work against a defensive line with warm bodies on it.
Henson is fine. Ricker needs his walking papers or someone to buy him a clue.

You are kind of making his point here. If this offense had 2 2nd RD draft picks on the line, that set of WR and Henry Josey we'd probably be pretty damn good. To give Yost credit for the 2013 offense is absurd. The guy was thought of just as highly as Henson is now. Talent is most definitely an issue. The OL play should not be this bad though. Ricker's system requires too many reads by the OL and we are missing assignments left and right.
I will agree though...even though I think blaming coaches is the easy way out. When you are this bad, there simply has to be some consequence. It may not even be totally fair, but if we continue to be this bad for the rest of the year and show no improvement then there has to be some form of accountability.

If Ricker's scheme is so complicated they haven't learned it in 2 years, it needs to go, and him along with it. Athletes of this caliber shouldn't need 1 year to pick it up: much less 2. Screw if.

In stories this week both in the Tribune & STL Post said that the schemes this year are the same as last year.
Ricker is doing some really good things in recruiting. He and the new safetys coach are doing great work of getting Mizzou back into Texas.

I think the biggest issue with the OL is we have an NFL RG and we moved him out to LT because the coaches didn't trust anyone else to play there.
This isn't hindsight either as I mentioned this exact same issue in the preseason.
I would put Crawford at LT. Get him some experience there for next year and improve the interior of our OL moving McGovern back to RG.
Crawford
Boehm
Abeln
McGovern
Chapell

They are actually much worse.
The first part of last year and this season have too many guys playing out of position. I agree that McGovern playing inside will allow the team to be a better run team. McGovern, Boehm, & Hall are all good in run blocking.
