Is this when we lose him? He is the current favorite to replace Spurrier. I am not certain how to feel about this. Would Mel Tucker take over? After watching the defense he posted with the Bears that is a scary thought.

Could be worse, we could bring Sal back as DC. While a good position coach and recruiter, his UT defenses, although lacking talent, were horribly disorganized.

not sure anyone at USC light has posted who the leader in the club house is. But if offered this is the Power 5 one t take. He would not have to face NS often and he would be in the SEC least

I welcome a change at DC. Kirby has gotten a tad bit stale although he seems to be back in form this year. Its all about the Jimmy and Joes

Bring Lorenzo Ward home as DC. Under Saban's tutelage he would flourish.

Probably never happen though.

Bring Muschamp. He can coach our D system and it would help with the melt of AU fans.

I have a feeling this is the one he'll take.

I still think Bo Davis gets a shot before Saban retires.

Have a Kevin Steele esque vet split it with Davis like they did Smart, then he takes over.

Unless he's absolutely not interested and/or not capable...

Man, you know Boom would love to get out of the dumpster fire that is Auburn....work with Saban instead of that clown Malzhan....I know they are paying him extremely well but the Gus Bus is a slow motion car crash

Maybe, but it seems like DL coaches rarely become coordinators and few have success when they do. Mike DuBose and Dan Quinn are the only ones I can think of right now.

The Jets' 1st year DC Kacy Rodgers is a former lifer as a DL coach. Todd Bowles does controls a lot, but the same can be said about Saban. #1 scoring defense in the league right now.

Wade Phillips
Buddy Ryan
Rex Ryan
Romeo Crennel
Rod Marinelli

All came from DL backgrounds to become some of the most respected defensive masterminds in the NFL. They also cut their teeth under some of the best coaches in their generation too.

It's a scarce few, though I'm sure there are more. It may be talent outlier with these guys or an "old school" trend that's dying out, but I think it could work in the right environment.

Wasn't Bob Stoops a DL coach?

Yup.

Should have taken off about three years ago. Coaching staffs do get stale and there does need to be a turnover. Otherwise, you get the echo chamber effect.

But, past history has made me question whether Kirby really wants to be a head coach.
