I'm 20 , and Spurrier retiring is probably a weird jolt to you all who have seen his entire career.

How weird will it be when Les Miles retires? Or Saban? These programs that don't change coaches every three years. Im gonna miss the old ball coach, but man, it's gonna suck when the Harbaugh era begins.

Alabama and LSU both have arguably their best coaches ever. Can't take this shite for granted

Hmm... Well us old guys have also seen his entire career. Do you mean people that have only seen his career at SC?

Us old guys that are like 40?
It'll be just as strange when CLM or Saban retire.

Neither of those two will be quite the same. SOS played in the SEC, won a heisman, and is a true eccentric southerner. Got the Florida gig while very young and literally changed the SEC. That is not an exaggeration. Pre SOS a trick play in the SEC was a fullback dive.

His roots are deep and southern, thus his impact greater IMO.

Plus I'm a UGA fan. He's literally tormented us for 20 years.

Us "old guys" remember when he first went to florida with the fun and gun offense. Some of us bammers remember the 35-0 arse whooping we took at the swamp.

I definitely remember the Shula years....poor guy wasn't a bad coach per se, he was just a mediocre HEAD COACH.

Spurrier was an extremely successful head coach in the SEC for almost 25 years. That's right at what Miles and Saban have combined in the SEC. I'm 29 and some of my earliest memories of college football are of him at UF. But yes by the time Miles retires, it will be a very sad day for me :(

Typically, a really good coach is followed by a bunch of not so good coaches.

Just be glad that you didn't have to live through his UF run as an LSU fan. It was brutal

All I can really compare it to in my life is RC Slocum's retirement, RC didn't accomplish what the HBC did but he was at A&M forever and I was sad to see him go, just like I'm sad to see Spurrier leave the game.

Not saying I remember Spurrier's whole career...just him coming off the bench for the 49ers when John Brodie went down.

OH....and being the holder on field goals.

As one of the younger posters I always hated that I only saw his tenure at South Carolina I would have loved to have watched him in his prime as a player/coach at Florida, San Fran, & Duke.

I used to loathe him because he destroyed LSU and basically everyone in the 90's at Florida. Looking back, he's a great coach and entertaining to boot.

Heard this on radio this morning. Prior to Spurrier USCe had been to four bowls. He took them to nine, won four in a row and five total.

not really. HE's old as dirt as far as CFB coaches go and we've all known that this was bound to happen eventually, it was only a matter of when. This isn't jolting at all.

However, in 2001 when he left UF in his prime to go to the redskins....THAT was a jolt. Mainly because 1)he still had many good years left in the tank and he was still at the top of the heap and b)it basically came out of nowhere.

I'm confused, are you saying you're one of the older posters or younger posters?

Why would you attempt to gather all the stupid posters in one place?

Young people are dumb as shite.

I remember him as a player (both college and his back up role in the pros). Coaches come and go. I watched Bryant through his entire career at Alabama, much of Shug's, the majority of Vaughts and the multiple failures of of State's with a few success stories sprinkled in there. I always like to see legends go out before they lose their edge. I think it's obvious it's time for Spurrier to go. Just a little surprised he is doing it mid season.

I'll miss Les. He's another original character. I like LSU as a second favorite team mainly because of Les Miles.

Saban is so "all business", its easy to admire his results, but wont miss him as a personality in the league as much.
